Scrapbook Memories (Part 1)

that BRS aec brought back memories I worked for my cousin in the 60s in my school holidays and when I could bunk off school our uncle “george Barnard” used to drive one and he would come in to our yard once or twice a week or when he was near we were at hendon on the nth circular and I would have to syphon 10 gallons of diesel out of his tank which he sold to my cousin not sure where he was based though but it must have been near north london , I can still taste the derv now thinking of it they were very care free days as I recall

hiya,
John climbing in the cab would be my problem now, and i reckon those “suicide” doors would take a bit of getting of used to, once had i think an old Wolsley car with that type of door and after having only driven motors with conventional openings found getting in and out a bit strange at first.
thanks harry long retired.

hiya,
Chris used to be able to get your creosote from there but it would fetch your skin off, good on the shed and fence though.
thanks harry long retired.

The best training ever, in the real world. No one has lived until they have at least had a mouthful of leaded 4 star and a mouthful of Diesel. When I was 14 my mate had just got a Mini van for his 16th birthday. He was going to spend a year doing it up, but it was youth club night. I had a plan and nicked a gallon of petrol for it from my uncles Morris 1000. I went into the house and was caught rinsing my mouth out :stuck_out_tongue: Nicking fuel gives you sore ears and a sore arse too, my uncle and my Dad gave me a good hiding, never stopped me syphoning, just taught me to more careful. I have said many times, like poacher turned gamekeeper, a driver who could flex the rules had to know which rules he was flexing

the trouble today is everything is so serious no one seems to have a laugh any more and the old bill just seem to want to nick for anything especially if you in a motor but all these lunatics stabbing people just seem to get away with it maybe I am becoming a grumpy old man, at least this site give s you a link to the past happy days

Certainly do bring back the memories Bubbs, especially that old Freightliner insulated box. We used to collect a big block of dry-ice before loading them up. Some wise guy worked out that you could chip a few lumps off of it and keep it in a Thermos.

When he got back to the canteen he wandered around dropping chips of it into folks tea - ended up looking like something from the Adams Family with everybody’s tea frothing about and clouds of vapour wafting around.

Still the best thread on the net!

Hi Marc, I worked for Syd up until he called it a day and Trevor was in the office then “under protest” but I knew him when he was driving the low loader he will have retired now as we are of a similar vintage they were both good blokes to know and work for so that brought more good memories back as a family run outfit and a good set of lads to boot .We will keep reading all your posts so just keep sticking them on.
cheers Johnnie
