Scrapbook Memories (Part 1)

Almost at 300, for the best thread going, well done Bubbs and everyone else who has contributed.

Hi all, heres an Eddolls tipper

Cheers Bubbs,

Muckaway:
Bob Eddolls, is that as in Eddolls of Cricklade, operator of blinged up Hinos (snigger snigger  )

No, I think you’ll find that’s Richard and Shane running the tippers Muckaway, sound blokes they are too! Shane used to run the R cabbed series 4 Scania identical to mine but now has a new Hino. Nothing wrong with a Hino old bud, they’re indestructable & good for the job.

It certainly is the best thread going & I very much hope it’ll keep going for a lot longer yet.

Muckaway:
Altitude, Suedehead beat me to it, Eddolls international. I would guess Eddolls with the tippers (maroon cabs, with black tippers) are related. Some say “Shane Eddolls” on them; I think they do a lot for the Red Arrows lot

Yeah I do remember them now, and being told there was some relationship in the Eddolls family, don’t remember the name Shane the only name in the back of my mind is Larry, don’t know if he’s Bobs boy or not. If they do a bit for the Red Arrows they must have a pilots licence then.

Eddolls’ are a “bit quick” for me; then again most firms are  They used to do Truckfest a few years back, don’t know if they still do? Are the Eddolls in partnership as I’ve seen one with “Shane Eddolls” on and the others just “Eddolls.”
Talking of Hinos, I’ve heard mixed reports on them, certainly the demo we had was a right heap not being snobbish it really was; Drivers’ seat falling to bits dashboard buttons had fallen off etc…

Anybody have any pics of the shortlived DM Baxter tipper fleet from Cheltenham? Danny had a Foden, a couple of Scanias plus a couple of Hinos. Went bust and one of his wagons is now owned by Hazel and Jefferies…Danny Baxter used to drive for Smiths and was a good worker.

Defo Deisels Perkins P 6s, Regards Larry.

I seem to remember there being an R6 as well Larry, what was the difference do you know  and what was the R6 fitted in.

they were fitted in the s type bedford in the early 50s

The difference between the P 6 & The R 6 Was dissaster , the P6 in my opinion was the far better engine, The R6 had allsorts of problems, mainley with timing going haywire & chopping the crankshaft up, oh dear what a headache, plus gasket bother, a cousin of mine had one in an S Type Bedford, He swaped it for a Leyland Comet Engine, Regards Larry.

Hi Larry
When I left school a little while age  my first job was with a Bedford main dealer, I didn’t stay there to long as it was a crap place and bad money, soon found out in those days it wasn’t the trade to be in. Anyway a lot of the Bedfords had the P6 in, I had heard fitters on about the R6 but don’t think we had any come in there, the only other engine fitted if not a Bedford or P6 seemed to be the Leyland. So apart from the problems you have said with the R6, was it a more powerful engine? what would be the reason to spec an R6 rather than a P6.
cheers
John.

Hi The P6 was 4.73 ltrs and 83bhp bore 3.5" stroke 5".The R6 5.56ltrs 104bhp bore 4" stroke4.5".
How to tell a Kew Dodge petrol from a diesel look at the starting handle hole two for a petrol and one for a diesel.Regards crowbar.
