hiya,
Notice my trademark Dave, cab covered in roadspray very unusual to see a scruffy Riding’s motor, there was always one exception to the rule though.
thanks harry long retired.
Hi Harry,
I drove a super comet four wheeler on a G plate with that ergnomatic cab, quite a nice lorry to drive in those days, not that powerful with the 400 engine. I expect that tractor unit had the 680.
Cheers Dave.
hiya,
Yes Dave it was Leyland engined and quite a bit nippier than most of the other stuff they had at the time which was nearly all Atki with 180 Percy’s in em, but i think i did an injector pipe or two with that one, what a memory eh’ it was the late 60s though.
thanks harry long retired.

hiya,
Yes Paul have looked at Northwest many times and done most of the Lancs hauliers in fact have worked for lots of them, keep looking for Stringfellows from your neck of the woods they was’nt a big outfit but quite well known and their drawbar outfits looked well but that was back in the late fifties when i first kicked off.
thanks harry long retired.

F86/20.5 ton dry animal feed tanker/ this truck averaged 4 loads a day 5 days a week on days and ran up to Scotland 6 nights a week for 4 years and never once let us down on the road, highest earning truck on the YHU fleet with only 2 drivers.
Discharging 20Tons of broiler feed at Pickering Nth Yorks.
At the Great Yorkshire Show Harrogate on the WCF stand (Not sure about the year but about 1979/80) Driver yorkyjoy.
This truck took over from GAO 432N but was never any good, broke down most days with something.Only had it 2 weeks and the back axle disintegrated had to have a new one.Could not send it to Scotland at night because it was to unreliable so the had to send one of the F7 tractor units instead.
This photo is taken at Mr Peels farm near Harrogate which is better known as (Emmerdale Farm) as seen on ITV 1.WCF used to deliver there most weeks with either bags or bulk animal feed.Driven this day by yorkyjoy.

hi, the john billows f86 brought back memories to me,i think in 1968 billows were just starting to sell volvos,at the time i was working for united carriers and billows brought a f86 unit over to show us,well, we had never seen one before so we had a good look around it and the boss asked the salesman if they were any good, he says,we have a customer who has done 60,000 trouble free miles with one.our boss replies, come back when he has done 600,000 trouble free miles and then we might be interested. we never did see him again
cheers diesel

As far back as I can remember GAO 432N covered over 500,000 miles and ended its working life as a yard shunter at the pocklington depot
Great Volvo pics, nice to read a thread with a bit sanity.
