Well yer maybe right there Malc, they did have a good old ding dong in court over it.
Just having a clear out found an old Motor ’ Transport’ from 1998 found this couple of pics/articles.
A Leyland Comet with ‘Past Notes’ article from 1929 about railwaymen/drivers guaranteed 48hrs and a whole weeks paid holiday!!!
And times don’t change look at this Stan Robinson article.

Hi All I have not been on much lately (pressures of work- so much for being retired!) so apologies if someone else has posted this as I have not had time to catch up yet. Back in about page 75 there was mention of Arthur Ducket from Highbridge by Flatman, I said that he was about 75 and still working. Well Arthur has been in the news again in fact he is 80 he passed me going in to Exeter a couple of weeks ago his truck is an 1820 Merc. I wonder how many 80 year old still have an HGV licence and still use it daily (Would I still want to be working at 80■■?)

Hi Bubbs. When I was on market work in the 60s we had a mixed fleet of AEC and Bedford and one of the drivers was in the Bedford driver’s Club. I once asked him the same question and he said he didn’t know if they had ■■■■ ups or not,and in any case it wouldn’t matter 'cos he was always in the wagon anyway

Hi tipit. While we are in Trafford Park do you remember seeing a overheight furniture wagon creeping about in the estate? It must have been on inter factory work.It could have been Mobel or maybe Schreibers, not sure as it was nearly 40 years ago
Hello again,a mixed bag today.
Not a good place to park Mr Payne.
Cheers Bubbs.
