Chris Webb:
Hi Jim.
They are great photos,I really like the Youngs Express photo at Douglas Castle Lodge. An Scottish pal of mine over here in the IOM will be interested in the photos,he lived in the area as a kid in the 40s and his dad was a gamekeeper on a huge estate owned by Lord Douglas Hume years ago.
I’m buggered if I can remember the name of the transport motel at Chapelhall, only that Genefax had a brick works nearby and Spalding Haulage and Finneys from Tyldesley,Manchester trunked from there.
Chris I think it was “The Glen Hotel” I used to stay there regular and it as only just come to me.
cheers Johnnie

Eyup Johnnie.
I reckon you are right,The Glen Hotel, not a bad spot for a night, had a bar and the snap was ok.I got weekended there one Saturday and Scotland were playing England at football.Apart from me and a driver from Devon,we were the only Sassenachs on the site .
Scotland won and I went to bed early,p*****.
Hi Jim,It was my wifes grandfather and grandmother who owned the house at the time of that accident, she remembers her father and mother talking about it . They owned the Craighead Quarry on the hill.We lived there until 1985 when I moved to Glenrothes to work with K@L Packers which was owned by Jimmy Kemp of Leslie fame. My wifes mother sold the two houses and moved with us.My wife and her mother ran the transport b@b from 1968 until it was sold .By that time the sleeper cabs had become popular.I’ve got photos somewhere taken from the same place as you with some of the lorries that stayed there.
Hydroflex, Lomas Bollington, Redfearn Barnsley, Mackintosh York, Wards of Tamworth, MEM Switchgear, Oldham Batteries, Hotpoint, weetabix,Suttons St Helens, Service, Ferodo, Donflex, Bucklies, Dean Smith and Grace, Ferrymasters, Gaimers, Beecroft, Lockwoods, Albright @Wilson, Steeley, BRS Carnoustie, Christians Boston, Service washing machines, Whiteways Cider,Perkins Engines, APV,and loads more.In1976 it cost £2-80 for a three course dinner supper bed breakfast and a car park ticket.Good value?
Hi Jim
Riggend Depot was right next to the Cafe i think the Building is still there all you had to was jump the Fence, there was a few different Firms in it at times,A One o Leeds, Plant co a think it was called Catplant or something , and Davis Bros and J&W Watt o Carlisle at one time,it was very handy, Grub was quite good but the Digs were terrible.Say hello to your Brother Tommy he is right we did have a shed in Reema Rd Bellshill and a Storage Contract for ■■■■■■■ Engines quite a good job.that name W&J Wass jolted the Memory remember them along the bottom road from Netherton wasnt it, not surprised you had bother with a Four in Line Davis had some they were 40 Footers a bloody Nightmare if you did a tight turn wi them the Wheels were still on the Deck but it was that pliable the the Corner of the front of the Trailer was nearly touching the Deck.So much for going out of the Game if I ever see you sometime al tell yi a wee Story, I think there will still be a few about that knows what happened, certainly a lot of poorer Subbies

hiya,
Well the BMC is a 1965 job and that would’nt be very old, they did’nt last five minutes.
thanks harry long retired
What year did they stop making the early LAD cab? I saw one built as a mobile crane near Derby, typical that my camera was in the house. It was a tidy looker on an H plate, which would have put it around 1970. I know there were already Mastiff type cabs running on G plates 1969.
As I searched BLB looking for inspiration, I found Willeme’s with the LAD cab, Dodge, BMC’s and Austin it must have been an early club of four
HI This Daf was sheer luxury to sleep in. Before this i had a Bedford KM for 2 1/2 years doing 3 night out a week sleeping on the shelf.
You may of seen the KM I removed the n/s window and made a box so you could put your feet in not to be cramped up.I did mine then did another 1/2
dozen everyone wanted one. sheer luxury. we was parked on Toddington services many many times in the late 70s and 80s.
