Thanks again Marcus for some really interesting material  it will soon be 100 pages  .
Does anybody know if the Sim Jones Scania 140 :astonished: actually went to Nigeria or did anybody hear anything about it.
Regards Steve.

Here you are Trev, this one is ex Ciga-giegy with the full sleeper cab…

Cheers Marc.

Thats the one Marc  , They were registered in Cambridge and their depot was just off the M11 near Duxford, I knew someone that bought one and it was forever breaking the front body mountings, they said it was because of the sleeper was too big for the chassis  mind you, it did make it a bit better for kipping in

I went to Carpenters years ago for a job and he offered me a Volvo like that, I got in the car and left I realised I was better off staying where I was.

Hi Bubbs should b there
I dont ever remember seeing a sleeper bub before, but some of Philips of Poole had proper made beds behind the seats.

My old man drove an 86 for Charlie Read back in the 70’s before he got on the F88’s, all the 86’s on there had bunks behind the seat’s. He is about 5ft6m and said he could just about get a night’s sleep in there, but if he was any taller it would have been the board across the seat’s job! All that glass in the back made it a cold place in the winter, but still warmer than the 88 he reckon’s. Cundell Corrogated had their 86’s fitted with bunks, and some had the middle rear window’s blanked to try and keep the heat in.
Mind you, he used to do 5 night’s a week in a TK artic for Kestrel Freight, so the F86 was a world apart from that!

Entress of Llansamlet Swansea had Volvo F86 artics, most were used on nights out all week. I think the space behind the seat was called a rest bunk, not classed as a sleeper cab. They were seen at the time as a big step forward from the Atki’s with the board and foam stretched from engine cover to door etc.

Hi a Hoveringham Foden Artic tipper from a 1966 copy of Commercial Motor, on a page advertising Anthony Hoists Ltd tipping gears and bodywork on stand 123 of the Motor Show of that year.

This MAT Guy ‘Big J’ 32 ton GTW Tractor with Pitt ‘Arteriel’ International TIR 10 metre trailer is on an advert for Marston Motor Co Ltd (Your London distributor for Guy,International and Pitt)

Also this advert for Eric Baker’s Hampshire Motor Company when it was an ERF dealer here in Southampton.

Philips of Poole is a blast from the past for me as one of their drivers helped me in the early 70s as it was the first time which I had gone empty to France to pick a load up and “Lenny” put me right and I saw quite a lot of him over the next 18 months to 2 years. I can recall one crossing coming home when we both had more to drink than we should have and as the deck officer offloading wave us both to come off we both went and the look on his face as he had a 32 tonner and a low loader come down the ramp side by side and was a sight I can still see now and still makes me smile. As I was only parking up and going home by train (on a dodgy) and the customs were on a go slow so Lenny was dropping his trailer in the compound as well but he showed me how to avoid a lot of the toll roads and dropped me at the station in Southampton.

Going back up to the Bedfords, where is that last pic taken. Clearly a docks but I don’t recognise it?

Hello again,another mixture today.

G’day Bubbs,
Here’s another shot of Clive Davis’ Scania, taken at Truckfest South West 1990,I’m sure you have loads more. I met him once, nice bloke. It’s an unusual paint sceam, did he base it upon this Belgiun Scania, they are very simular? The colours and strips realy suit them.

Cheers Jamie

I need help with the Volvo Fleet. It looks like WG Golding on the door, but not the tanker firm from Stapleford Abbotts, was this the forerunner of John Golding Heavy Haulage in Wooton under Edge.

I need to go back to Specsavers :frowning:

Hi Wheelnut,John Golding was Walt Goldings son mate,my restored F86 was first owned by Walt and looked like the ones in the line up…
