Hope these are of interest.

Hi Bubbs, nice to see the old Abbey Hill Daf 2800, dont think they had many of those. When i used to work for Cartransport at Queenborough, Abbey Hill used to come in and pick up Toyotas for the west country. They had mainly Fiats back then and it wasnt too long before they opend their own depot just down the road at Sheerness.
Going back to Cartransport,do you remember, each depot had a different colour stripe on the cab. Also each depot had a different make of truck. At Queenborough, we had Mercedes 1626s Red with a White stripe, then later 1625s with White cabs and Red stripe. I think Birmingham had Leyland Roadtrains and Newhaven had Dodge 300s. They were a massive fleet back in the 80s with depots all over the country, do you have any pictures of these in your magic box?.
Rgds Mark.
Hi there, cant recall any Cartransport pics Mark but will add to the long list of wants mate.
A mixture today
Couldn’t get the writing to copy for the last pic but this Mercedes is seen at Dover on route to Italy loaded with whisky and gin, note the lack of long vehicle boards
Cheers Bubbs.

Hello,I found some old Headlight mags so they have to go as I’m clearing up,heres a few clippings…the first should interest willie roadstar(Ant}
Most of the older drivers on here have bought/borrowed/stole a copy of Headlight mainly to locate a backload or find somewhere to stop for the night…here are a few pages of digs/cafes and doss houses that was in an issue over 30 years ago
Although its nice nowadays to have a sleeper cab so you’ve a guarenteed bed it was nice to get away from the tin box for a night…parked up at 4pm but book off on the log sheet at 6pm then book on next morning at 6am get out of bed at 7.30,a guts full of breakfast and eventually firing up the lorry at 8.30am …happy days
Cheers Bubbs.

How very true and none of us thought we were doing anything wrong did we
Have to admit I always had a copy of Headlight in the cab with me. Found some good cafes and digs and some not so good.
One of the best that comes to mind was the Avon Transportel at Avonmouth. Wonder if thats still open.
Ray
It is quite interesting to see a copy of Headlight again and the similarity between Truckstop News when it comes to the cafe adverts, in some cases it is only the telephone number that has got longer, the decor is still the same 30 years on

Looking at that list of Cafes, would i be right in saying that the only two left trading would be Chris"s Cafe @ Wycombe and Lincoln Farm ?
Hi once more, some old Sed/Atks today.
Hope these are of interest.
Cheers Bubbs.
