Hi Marc, I would like to wish you a Merry Christmas and say thanks for posting all the great photos over the last four month’s.
I am afraid that I don’t know anything about Peterlea Trucking, I think that they might of started running Commie Block and Middle East sometime after I finished.
Although I had a P.M. from a TruckNet member called pils last month who worked for Peter King for about 13 years.
Pils lives on the Gold Coast here in Queensland and told me that Peter King now lives in Perth Western Australia.
He also mentioned that Mervyn King, who I think is some relation, suffered a massive stroke about two years ago. Mervyn I think, ran M.&C. Transport who did a lot of Middle East in the 1980s.

Hopefully, pils or jj72 ( Andy ) might know a bit more about this company.
B.T.W. Merry Christmas to you too Andy and give my regards to Dave.

Regards Steve.

Hi Marc, loving the continuing pics in this thread. Particularly like the Tarmac Reiver a few pages back tipping into a Barber Green. :sunglasses: Have you any more ?

PS. I was also wondering if you’ve come across any pics of Staveley / Peakstone / John Beisty vehicles in CM ? I think everytime they had a fresh batch of wagons, it was announced in CM for some reason !
This is a link to a thread I put up a while back detailing the company :

Hi Mark,Ifirst met Alex Greaves in Teheran in seventy eight at the start of the revolution. we were parked in davis turners compound where there was a guard on duty twenty four hours a day. Because of the troubles we left our trailers in the compound and bobtailed a few units down to the customs each morning to be told to come back tomorrow this went on for weeks. Alex Greaves was parked in the street near the customs all this time and refused to join us in DT’s compound as he said it cost too much for parking.

Peter King cousin of Mervyn King was a subbie for Coblefret for many years, when they had a yard in Harwich. He always had top speck trucks and changed them every three or so years. He traded as Peterlea trucking and when cobblefret moved to purfleet he started looking for other work which included middle east and later russia. I believe he now runs a demolition company in oz. regards Jamie .

I remember Hollis Transport from Reading, used to repair a Leyland Terrier that they owned. The Ensign Tanker of Slaters brought back memories as I did my HGV 2 training at Slaters yard near Pickering in 1976, passed my test on a 1968 S 34 Foden 8 legger. A brilliant thread, keep em coming!
