Great pics, got any more?
bubbleman:
This motor finished up on Simon International.
I think the first driver was a Greek guy who went by the name of Hercules.
From memory, the only trip he did was about 25 drops all over the M/E,took him a couple of months.
After that it was driven by Johnny Hunt,(Black John).
John was going out to Baghdad one trip and ran out of Ferodo going down the hill into Damascus.Took the slip road at the bottom much too fast and rolled the drag.
On another ocassion,John picked me up at Athens Airport in this rig to take me up to Gevgelia to recover SI’s F89 roadtrain that had been dumped.
Hi charlie one,
It certainly looks like John Smith (Smudger) on his weekly trip to Yugo.
Great driver, loads of experience, anyone know who he’s working for ? last time I heard he was on for C A Stevens out at Grately Nr.Andover.
Marc’s pictures sure bring back some memories, keep up the good work.
Regards MaggieD
bubbleman:
A BIG thank you for the encouragement I’m getting from everybody and theres loads more if it’s wanted. This next lot are all Bedfords,I’ve a soft spot for the old TK as I’ve done 1000s of miles in one. I hope they are of interest once again. Cheers Marc.
And fast forward to 2003:
Plenty more interesting pics,Bubbles lad. Particular like the Bathgate OD from Holmes Chapel.
May I ask if you have any Routemans in your collection ? Tippers or tankers ?

HI MaggieD. The last time I saw Smudger was about two years ago.He was still on for Stevens.I think he may be retired by now.Regards Charlie.
Great stuff Marc Did you keep a scrapbook for every make? and what year did you start keeping them, I’ve got a couple of binders of clippings up in the loft which go back to the mid 60’s mainly from CM and MT
Just read everything thats been posted since I last put something on and its good to see the thread is bringing back a few memories for many of you.
To willie roadstar…Ant,
I also put the pics to medium and that seems to work.just have to wait and see if I run out of space on photobucket…if I delete a pic on there then does the pic I’ve previously put on trucknet disappear?
To Bestbooties
Thanks for the info on Radclives F12, I’d love to see a pic of it in Simons livery.
To 240 Gardner,
Nice pic of Jeffreys TM they’ve a nice fleet of old 'uns
To Bonkey,
Gonna look through the box,I’ll find something…keep looking
To Lemonmouth,
Trev,I bought my 1st copy of CM when I was 13 (1966) but on a saturday mornlng I’d catch the bus into Bristol and go to hauliers and ask if they had any lorry mags they had finished with. I would end up with loads more than I could carry but they were only too glad to have a clearout, many putting stuff aside for me to return the following week, Of coarse I treasured it all and I’ve still some of this stuff today.
Move on 30 years and now wife has taken over from mother so after a good kick up the dirtbox I had to thin things out
, loads of stuff went out and it took 3 months of spare time to do it.I put everything into some kinda order to create the scrapbook(s) but it was obvious it was gonna be never ending, thats how come I put a batch of the same make at one time.
Right, enough of this drivel, lets find a few pics to put on for my pals on trucknet.
Cheers Marc.
What great Memories
I remember loads of the trucks pictured
The speedways Savim holds fond memories as my late father drove it.
(as mentioned in Trucking around Slough/Colnbrook/Datchet/Langley from.1970)
Glad that brought back happy memories old skool kid, something in the back of my mind told me someone had mentioned Speedway freightways on trucknet, thats why I bunged it on…this is the nicest bit ,when theres feedback.
Right, todays bits n’ bobs, first a few for Bonkey then some Guys and A.E.Cs
Thats todays stuff, hope they are of interest…Cheers Marc.
Marc I’m beginning to think your box is a 20ft container!! I remember alot of the late 70’s pics through odd subscriptions I had but unlike you never kept them going or had the nous or space to keep them all.Hope you realise You’re making a lot of us very happy mate Keep it going !!

Cheers Marc
Bubbleman
…what a great collection…im glad mum never threw them out.. i recognise a lot of the companies on there. and some are still going today..i drove the maggie deutz which was on the hilton fleet, where i started my haulage days back in the 60
s. It used to be driven by a driver called joe jiggins
and was often on the Cotrali wine tank contract.
Brought back a lot of memories seeing the old trucks, and what i used to drive throughout my career.
by the way bonkey

Hello again,
Been scanning a few more pics, the 1st shot is a gang of motors waiting to cross the channel…in those wagons!!!
Hope these ar of interest to someone.Oh yeah,I notice some of the writing is getting chopped off ,its the scanner not me being careless with the scissors
Cheers Marc.
Fantastic!!! I like the first one with the KP Dodges in the frame, first artic I had was a KP, 40’ single axle trailer, with the axle right on the back.
Keep um coming.
These plates wee registered in London about 1969/70
Absolutely brilliant collection of pics ,takes me back to passing my test in a TK(what else !) so many of the the trucks pictured , I remember seeing on my travels around the midlands, if it said International on the side I wanted to be in it,even the Guy big Js and Atki’s,the first artic I drove shunting in the yard was an 86 and the boss couldn’t get me out of it and it was a real high mileage heap,at the time i was driving a 150 Gardner engined Big J so even an 86 was luxury. Those were the days, not to mention the roping and sheeting, there was certainly a lot of satisfaction in roping and sheeting a 40foot with a tidy scotch cross at the back.
regards derek and hi to chris
