Good driving lesson in the 88, not so much fun in those little Cargos and Bedford TLs eh Bubbs!, didn’t get far from the ramp gates at wapping
Back to more sedate days in the 90s, did a few shows and road runs in this old girl, not quite concourse, recall I gave £350 for her from Richmond Motors, Birmingham…

I was a young teenager when this car, the MGB, was announced. I fell in love with it. Just a few years later when I was 17, now a licence holder, and now working in the garage I got to drive one. What a disappointment! Two other cars also held promise for me that was dispelled when I got to drive them, The E Type Jaguar and the Alfa Romeo 75.
What about you? Any disappointments like this?.

Morgan 4+4, adored from my teenage years but an enormous disappointment when I eventually got to drive one, last year.
I felt like Ed China in a Mini!
Well this MGB GT Is still in the Dunbar Familys Garage, I have owned for over 20 years, It belongs to my grandson Richard now, Ive had no problems with it, And it has the overdrive gear box with servo assisted brakes, It still drives very well.

Yes, the Rover SD1 turned out to be a disappointment. Hankered after one, bought one and it amounted to very little.
But the biggest disappointment for me was the ERF ECS and the ECX, both of which had crappy Eaton ‘S’ (for synchromesh) gearboxes. The ECX Olympic could have been a real gamechanger but no . Not all ERF’s or MAN’s fault of course: they must have seen the writing on the wall for constant-mesh Fuller / Eaton 'boxes, which were outlawed under European regs for drive-by decibel noise. Still disappointing for me though!
Scrapbook memories, now in motion.

With what must be a very rare Austin 3 litre police car. I did not know any had been used in that role. A wholly unsuccessful car, one I saw as a parts- bin special by the factory.

I take it that it’s the police car smoking, and not the venerable ERF

They were fantastic as a caravan puller though, we sold a lot of the Morris versions.
Pete.

Morris version? News to me. I thought is was uniquely Austin as it was too unpopular to taint the other marques!

Peter are you getting confused with 1800 Morris varient? The 3 litre was hampered by the parts bin mentality/chronic lack of working capital. IIRR, the doors were from the 1800 front drive.
Remember that PBC had four Berliet tractor units fitted with Telmar retarders back in the early 70’s, they were very heavy but super efficient but could be dangerous when tractor unit only especially in the wet, Buzzer

Young as I was then, I remember seeing signs (sometimes on mudlfaps) on the back of many a coach in the early 70s boasting they had a Telma. I had no idea what it was, but I was impressed.
