Years ago I do remember seeing a Bedford TK eight wheeler, don’t know what bits were used as we were travelling in opposite directions at the time and I didn’t have chance to take a closer look, but I certainly did a double take.0
Could have been this one Bedford TK 8 wheel rigid Reg No KNL 659Photograph courtesy of Robert Knight
Tiats of haydon bridge had 2 tk 8 wheelers 1 like that and 1 on 10 stud wheels. John Robson from Hexham had 1 from new at taits, remember him saying it was a bit poor the hills. used 2 take coke 2 South Wales alot. Bet they were long days.

I can just remember as a kid seeing it being knocked down, loads and loads of 8 wheelers from Manchester taking that spoil heap away. And the chimney in background is the old Metalic brickworks, staffs blue brick and tiles. In that shot the A34 is single carrageway, so don’t know what year it was
wouldn’t like to guess the year steve , but it was a hell of a long time ago . i was 21 and delivered limestone dust in half hundredweight paper bags , 8 tons to a load in the early / mid sixties . the pit was on its last legs then . ironically , before i retired ( prematurely ) i was loading bricks from the brickworks at parkhouse. cheers , dave

Hi dave, according to google it closed in 69 and here’s a shot of the brickyard I can just remember them putting the roundabout in, as before that there was a lot of accidents with people coming down the bank with a lick on, it was a straight road then. It’s been broke up now with roundabouts and traffic lights
