Hello again,heres a few more cuttings,Cheers Bubbs, :wink:

Hi Marc :smiley:

Is there a caption to go with the ARC FL7? If I’m right, it’s an ex OD called Sid Miles. He originated from the Kent area and basically turned up one day as an OD - nobody knew him beforehand but apparently he had friends in management. After a while he became well known as a bit of a rogue… :smiley: A few years later he disappeared as fast as he arrived under a very ■■■■■■■■■ cloud… :blush: :open_mouth: :smiley:

He’s pictured here loading black in Cromhall quarry under the Marini plant ( I think…). The quarry closed in the late eighties/early nineties and the plant was moved to another site but has now been scrapped - thank God! :smiley:

A lot of OD’s had these early FL’s - Volvo’s launch coincided with the launch of the OD scheme so I guess there was some good deals to be had!

Hi again,Paul…no mate,there was no caption to the pic…as you say,FLs were a popular choice back then.Heres todays stuff,Cheers Bubbs, :wink:

Well, there are radiator blinds and there are strange radiator blinds. I think that can be classed as “strange”. Sheet of newspaper usually did the trick for me. :smiley:

Hi Bubbleman

I saw your pic of the Transcontinental being used as a training vehicle way back when. It made me wonder how many of us started off on trucks like these.

Cheers Bassman

Had a problem with Photobucket (got carried away with deleting certain things :blush: ) so apologies if the pics I’ve posted in the past have vanished. I’ll try and make amends by having a scan through my sd cards and post some bits and bobs. First up is one out of my recycle bin;

A very rare Beast this side of the pond :open_mouth:

Hello everybody :slight_smile: The heavy recovery vehicle is an American-built Ford W-Series,which is quite rare in the United Kingdom,although I well remember a Ford W-Series 6x4 Tractive Unit in the Barnsley,South Yorkshire,area in 1984. It was painted red,and ended up on the premises of Alan Finlay’s diesel engine export company Hartwood Exports,at Birdwell,near Barnsley,near Junction 36 of the M1 Motorway :slight_smile: So it was almost certainly broken up for it’s ■■■■■■■■■■ whatever) engine and other parts,unfortunately :frowning: - although I do hope that it’s been preserved :slight_smile:…Alan Finlay did use to put historic vehicles on one side in the hope that enthusiasts would buy and preserve them :slight_smile:

NOTE:Instead of spending a large amount of money in developing the Ford Transcontinental,why the hell didn’t Ford save some money,adapt the W-Series models for the European and United Kingdom markets and sell the already designed,developed and proved Ford W-Series Line Haul models in these markets? :question: :smiley:
I’m sure the W-Series was just as good,if not better,than the Transcontinental :slight_smile:
