Bewick:
No wonder Dorothy divorced “The Saint” once you had given her the “patter” ( and everything else!!) “H”.Anon 1.
hiya,
You know what they say Dennis if you’ve got it flaunt it, and you can’t keep a good man down.
thanks harry, long retired.
You can get your “collar felt” for doing that “H”,OK behind closed doors but not in front of the Horses my dear man !! Well look what happened to George Michael when he “flaunted” it at that Copper !!! Dennis.
hiya,
Dennis only flaunting the “old world charm” not the “bridgeing piece” not
going down that road I’d get lost.
thanks harry, long retired.
Sorry “H”,just a bit of “wind up” !! I fully appreciate that there is a mile of difference between the words “flaunting”(what you would have done towards the "fairer ■■■!) and the word “flash” which George did !!! We definitely would not be riding on Georges Bus would we mate. Cheers Dennis.
That Addison Merc 6w reminded me that Tuckwells had one on a C reg until about 2003; It was originally a mixer but was converted to a tipper. It used to carry 15t at 24something gross. It was a bit slow to follow but it made a lovelly sound.
harry in the early 60s in york way I would be going to school , and by the way my old school in york way is now a private block of flats and they must be worth a fortune as they are now a 10 minute walk from the eurostar terminal at st pancras, christ it used to be busy there with the BR traffic all those scammel scarabs coming out of kings cross depot and the old potato market, you would not recognise the place now, anyway interesting chat this talking of old lorry parks the one at shoreditch at the top of commercial street which stood empty for years has all changed now ,there is a brand new rail station there called "shoreditch high st " its on the london overground , cheers fredm
Spotted one of Alan Bonds(cheers Steve) . F7 tippers, used to drive for him a while back . . not on the tippers though . . ime not that old
Did you supply his one and only F12 Shaky. . think it was on an L plate?
This might be one for Basilbrush; Who remembers an F6 4w tipper with a light green cab that until recently, hauled out of Hansons’ Lechlade? I think it was a C reg.

It was certainly a nice looking motor, plain ,understated but functional ,only took it out once .
My regular motor ,Eurotech (dont laugh) was in Bryan bros having a new loom fitted after a compolsury Iveco electrical malfunction.
Well, me only being a pup I wouldn’t recognise the pic. However, that motor in the foreground is signwritten Sankey Sugars, a very well known (long since gone sadly) firm from Earlestown (N-le-W) in Lancashire. They were right by the Sankey Canal so, a wild guess would be…Liverpool?
I thought it was that old market in Liverpool, can’t recall the name but there were two wholesale markets in the city before the lot shifted to Edge Lane. I like the Sankey Sugar wagon and drag.

So do I Chris, but, just out of interest, what was the car on the left. Too early and too long for a Jowett Javelin surely, perhaps a Yank?

Well,it turns out that the picture is of Sheffield Wholesale market…there was something about the scene that made me think again.
As soon as I had mentioned Liverpool I looked at the photo again and recognized the scene, taken from the bottom of Broad Street. There is a sign above the wagon that says Ron Boler and he was still going when I worked out of the new Parkway Market in 1969.L Kay was the forerunner of Enos Kay who had a pitch in the new market as well. The name on the Thames van also jogged my memory as E A Stevenson were fuel merchants and ran a sizeable fleet of tippers.
The top picture was taken in 1961,I left Sheffield in 1956.

Chris that was only because you had no option and I think the car could be a Chrysler as my dad had one in the 50s and it looks very similar
