Hello again,heres a few more cuttings,Cheers Bubbs,
Are Watford Plant Hire still going?
Drinkwater Sabey: One of several outfits to have owned the Oxfordshire firm of Sands and Gravels…Anyone got any pics of their wagons? Grey cabbed ERF E series 6 and 8wheelers were their last motors, on F reg I think.
Just a few more random quarry pics from me…
A lot of us remember J.E.Clark but how many know he had a brother - Fred G Clark - who also ran lorries? I can only remember 3 or 4 at most but I’m sure someone else will know better than me… Poor photo but it shows Fred’s 6 wheeler F7 being loaded. Driven by Dave Maslin for most of its life, it was a testament to this wagon that it stuck it - Dave liked to press on!
When the Second Severn Crossing was being built, we took thousands upon thousands of tonnes of stone down to their concrete plants to make the sections of the bridge. 4 of us stopped for our break on the way down - I’m 3rd in line, the others are OD’s
The view of the bridge during construction. As is usually the case, it was a little hazy…
A demonstrator E8 that Bonds had for a week. They went on to buy F40 KMW when G Pearce from Devizes shut the doors…
Yet another Febry!! The green Constructor was ran by another of Jos K Febry’s sons, Danny. The F7 and the Clydesdale were ran by Eric Foster
A better shot of Eric’s Clydesdale. She had just had a respray and looked very smart… Nathan ( Muckaway ) was saying how the Freighters were favoured in his area. The Clydesdales were very popular down here for a long time but the replacements seemed to be split between Freighters ERF ES6’s and Volvo FL6’s…
Hi paul, hope these pics will do for you. the new owner is restoring the E.R.F now,
and respraying it the same colour, and keeping the name, he has change the front of the E.R.F,.
Yet again Piston Broke has rekindled old memories for me I recognise that Constructor, I used to see it parked with a 6w Sed Atki with a bright green cab. Got any pics of that, Paul? I think it was a C reg, had a 250 badge on the grille?
Dai, thanks for the photos. Lets hope the new owner keeps you updated.
Regards Paul.
Hey Bubbs!
Congratulations on getting over 750,000 views That is some achievement for ‘just’ an old box of cuttings…
Well done to you
Nathan, that green Seddon could be a choice of three - two owned by L Cam and son or one owned by an owner driver by the name of Eric Marshall, otherwise known as Oddlegs They all had 250 ■■■■■■■■ Erics had a Fuller 9 speed as did one of Cams, the other had a Spicer box. No pics of any, sorry. Like all of us, I wish I carried a camera more than I did…
I had a Seddon Atki for a few weeks on demo - bloody quick for its time but the brakes weren’t up to much!
EDIT… Thinking about it, both of Cam’s were ‘B’ regs. One they bought new and driven by my mate Digger and the other was bought second hand about 18 months old. I’m sure there’s a pic of it on here somewhere - B89 TFV I think…
So glad you didn’t stop when you said you were going to Bubbleman, it just keeps getting better.
The Fibrenyle Foden brings back memories, i was a fitter at BRS Beccles & can remember these motors. There were a few artic Fodens, an ERF B series & a Leyland Terrier box van, but most of their lorries were flatbed Seddon Atkinson 400 wagon & drags with A frames, Gardner 180’s, David Brown gearboxes & two speed axles. The first time I had to reverse a trailer into the workshop took almost all morning , but with some advice from the driver after he stopped laughing at the knots I was tieing it up in, I got there in the end.
I also wish I had a camera with me when I think back.
Fibrenyle has been through various name changes over the years, and have relocated just out of town on the Ellough Ind. Estate, (suppose it’s a bit like “Triggers broom”). The old factory has been knocked down.
Normans have the contract to carry the finished goods now.

Hi, any idea when this was taken, because one of My Grandfathers was a carter out of the docks at the bootle end of the dock road, and he used two horses one of which was a grey! he was still working there in late forties/early fifties, but gave it up about 1955 and retired over the water to wallasey.Mike
