Hello again, more ERFs taken by me from Dai
…heres todays stuff,Cheers Bubbs,
I drove FLF, out of Coastal Roadways, in Pyle, in 1976… she was used for shunting steel coils from British Steel, in Port Talbot, back to the yard… YPV, the other coastal wagon, was, driven by one of the boys, from Leominister, on change over, and general haulage…
When Coastal, changed the colours, from black and white, to blue and white… the company was split, between other depots.
P & O, were the head office, Ferrymasters, Coastal, and several others, were… all under the P & O “flag”.
In Pyle, there were, 65 wagons, normal work was tank work, but, around half, were on General Haulage… plus 2 volvo’s F88’s, driving abroad…
I started as a fitter, got put through my test… and went tramping…
In 1986, I got transferred, to " Ferrymasters " in Esbjerg, Denmark, where I drove, Russia and Eastern Europe… when Ferrymasters, closed the Esbjerg depot… I bought my own Volvo F12… and continued The driving of on shore drilling equipment, to the Russian oil fields for Maersk.
I stayed in Denmark, until my retirement, in 2008… I’m now back in the UK… and thanks to Coastal… I have seen all of Europe, Russia and Scandinavia.

H cOllie,
Did you work with Lew Jones from Weobley Herefordshire on Coastal Roadways.Lew had a bad accident near Bridgnorth in the 1980’s whilst driving for Coastal Roadways. He still lives in Weobley, but unfortunately has poor health these days.
Cheers Dave.

Hi Dave,
Yes, I knew Lou ( Big Lou)… I’d heard he had a bad bump. but, at that time… I was in Denmark.
I lost touch with many of the drivers there… except one, John James… he’s retired now… ( as I assume. most of us are )
Honky, was the top guy…in the office…
If you know Lou, give my regards…

Cheers Dave.
Those Thompson Loadmaster bodies must be one of the best tipper bodies ever built. Virtually every muckshifter a while back ran them around here.
Downside is they were very heavy but they make “Muckmaster”, Loadmaster and Loadmaster-Lite now…
…Shame the lorry manufacturers don’t do the same.
Hi Bubbs
Great pic of the ERF tipper - I’m guessing it was a homemade 6x2? Can you remember where you took it or is it a cutting? Bristol reg I believe…
A lot of us can remember R&W Febry’s fleet - a few from me today, taken at the auction when the doors were closed for the last time…these sad looking old girls were practically all that was left of a fine fleet of mostly British motors. It didn’t take Renwicks long to scupper them completely once they got their teeth into them
1st pic is copyrighted to Arthur Ingram. The rest are mine…
I can’t actually remember this ERF on the fleetbutit was at the auction. Must have been a very early A-series to be on a ‘J’ plate…
You can just make out Febry’s wrecker in the centre of this pic…

THANKS BUBBS, a wagon I knew well. Would you mind if I repost it on the Lancaster hauliers thread?
The ERF was originally a 4x2 but in the early seventies the owner decided 4 wheelers were no good so he had three fitted with self steering Primrose axles. They steered going forwards but had to be locked in the straight position before reversing or they turned the wrong way. It was fitted with a 5LW and regularly returned 15mpg but it only had the one driver all it’s life. The other two conversions were this Dennis and a Dodge. All other 4 wheelers were sold. The reg is Lancashire, TC became Bristol later

Thanks for that, truckfing. I’m always interested in the different ideas that some operators had - that must have been an unusual one at that time…
I had an ERF that was TC registered in '77 here in Bristol - that was why I thought it was local to me…
Dia,
Nice to see all those ERF E Series from Wales. They were a very good lorry, a little more leg room and they could have keep pace with the continental lorry makers. The EC was not as good.
Then the jobs for the boys in europe put pay to the other love of my life the Eaton Fuller Twin Splitter Box.
Never mind a few more years and they can stick the lot where the sun don’t sun.
