Hi MarcJust a few more from Truckfest again - including a Constructor that was driven by my mate until he retired, fresh out of the box -
2
Smart looking Constructor there Piston Broke. Which engine was in the the 24:26, the DAF? And what year would that have been?
My Dad ran four Constructors all 24:21s (TL11 engine), Y B C & F registrations. The first had a Fuller Range-Change box, the rest were all Spicer Splitters. All were tippers onthe 2-Spring steel suspension. None of them gave us much trouble. Good lorries.
Andrew
Smiths last Constructor 6w was a G reg and had the straight 8 speed. It was so unpopular it went long before the G reg Fodens.
hiya,
If any old Bowker drivers of 60s and 70+ vintage look in on this thread

Hello again, great feedback lads…nice shot of AWF434B erfguy and thanks to tanktrotter for its history after it leaving TEPs…he mentioned the TV series TRUCKERS,the first shot may be of interest to fans of the programme.Again good pics from Paul…the J.E.Clark Merc was driven by Rodney Mingo (RIP) looks like he’s sat in the passenger seat.Harry…sorry you’ve lost your old mate,Terrys gone to the great transport cafe in the sky
OK,Here we go.
Not long after the TRUCKERS series ended I came across this Merc cab next to a railway line in Shropshire,I’ve no idea why it was there but O’Brady were one of the ficticious companies featured in the show.
Heres one for Pete359,looking well after climbing Shap…the Bubblemobile is behind
Bit of an odd trailer on the back of this old girl.
Also seen at the top of Shap
Kev Dennis seen at the BP Truckstop
Hope these are of interest
Cheers Bubbs,

Weren’t Truckfests of old much better than modern day ones? Probably due to the fact there were more manufacturers back then.I did find it to be friendlier with a lot more atmosphere and camaraderie - I stopped going when I felt it had lost that. Bit like the job really I guess
I haven’t been for years though so it may have changed. I know a lot of people enjoy it, especially for the social side so I’m not going to knock it…if I don’t like something I tend to not do it anymore

I haven’t done a Truckfest in nearly 10 years, I prefer steam rallies and go to the local ones around here. Except this year, when Bloxham, Ducklington and Fairford were all cancelled. Too busy for Gaydon but all seems fine for the Retro Show. Hopefully.
Yes all good for the retro show, as it’s all on Tarmac with museum as back up, Volvo are bringing the new FH.to the show, added value! 250 retro truck expected…
Hi, Bubbleman
Just seen your comment about Bikers being run by the receivers. Have they got a new lease of life I.m sure I saw a new Volvo 8 wheeler on the A1 near Catterick the other day, unless they had really cleaned one of the better ones up for sale.
Cheers Bassman
Hi Bassman, the comment about Bikers was put on by the magazine it was cut from…and that was several years ago, they well may be back in business mate.
Cheers Bubbs,
Hi , Bubbleman,
Bikers run into a lot of the plants we deliver to in the north east, I thought the receivership comment was a bit odd but you never know these days.
By the way , great pics. of “proper lorries”, Keep 'em coming .
Cheers Bassman

Hi Andrew
It was a very smart wagon… Yeah, it was the DAF engine - 260 horses would it have been? I know it went well - I had a helluva job to keep up… Roy got that in about '90 I believe, it was on an ‘H’ plate. Spicer splitter too, like yours…
He was coming down the Evesham bypass one day, minding his own business as you do and got a tug by a motorcycle plod. Plod asked ‘What speed do you think you were doing Sir?’ Answer was ’ Between 40 and 50 Officer - a bit quick I know but I’ll try and keep it down a bit’. ‘No sir’ says Plod ‘You were actually doing 63…’. ‘Go forth and multiply, I never was’ says Roy, who was now a bit worried. ‘Don’t let me catch you again Sir. Be on your way’ He was one lucky fella. A great bloke to run with - we had loads of laughs
Previous to that he had a ‘B’ reg with the TL11 but I cannot remember which gearbox was in that. I know it was bought second hand from Scotland and was a bloody good truck…
Previous to that he had an AEC Marshall (?), 6 wheel tipper on a ‘P’ reg. That was a tidy old girl - until the tree fell on it going up through the Thicket

They were a good little motor, i was lucky enough to get a lorry and drag FL12 380 with a 10 car Lohr transporter body on it, that was the best car transporter i ever had by a country mile, the 12 was the engine the FL10 should have had from day one, turned a decent lorry into a pearl.
The FL7 was a lorry of choice around Oxfordshire for ARC o/d’s on tippers and Conbloc. I don’t recall Volvo mixers-Leylands were popular around 'ere

Some more randoms… 1st pic shows a couple of Tony and Ken Faithfulls fleet. A pair of very friendly guys… I haven’t seen the red Albion about for a while but I know they still have the blue one…
I’ve seen the Peterbilt about since - lovely truck…

Having had another perusal, I think these and yesterdays were taken at a show near Calne, sometime early nineties IIRC
