I am sure that STB 550 C was a very early production Leyland Beaver to be fitted with the (then) new Ergomatic cab.
It was first used as a publicity for Leyland Motors, and is photographed alongside one of T. Brady & Sons` L.A.D. Leylands
in the parking area of the Mayfield Cafe on the A 6.
Am I correct in thinking that STB 550 C caught fire not long after Reids Transport had carried out a thorough
restoration ? Perhaps someone can enlighten me , please.
Cheers, cattle wagon man.
My post
had overlapped as I checked the reg. no. as I typed .
Thanks , pete 359 for confirming the sad fate of STB 550 C.
Cheers, cattle wagon man.
Great to see John Ward’s Guy again Bubbs What a terrific bloke he was, always had time for a chinwag, very sadly missed

Hi timmyticket
Have you any photo’s of the old girl in her new colours? It would be great to see them…
I have only a few grubby old tippers today - just showing a couple of branches of the huge Febry family tree…
The first three were ran by grandsons of R W Febry… second couple are son and grandson of Jos K Febry but I can’t remember the relationship between them all… It gets VERY confusing
Originally owned from new by Randolph Smith. Treated like one of the family by him until his retirement. 250 ■■■■■■■■ Fuller box and Kirkstall back end… 19 and a half tonnes payload at 30490kgs gross - we thought THAT was a heavy tare, its nothing like as heavy as they are nowadays
Bought new
Second hand and pulled like a train…
Both bought new by Jos K and taken on by JB and MJ
Bought second hand by JB and MJ. 1989 F reg awaiting a repaint…
Piston Broke, my first wagons’ mgw was 30490 (F reg Foden 4300) and I could only carry 18700! I can just squeeze 19t on our new MANs nowadays.
Tou said Febry Bros Constructor went well, the old chap says his X reg one did too. It was a great starter in cold weather, but the clutch was horribly heavy though.

Hello again lads, still feeding you these old restored lorries…wont be long before we go back to the cuttings.Todays ones start with a restored Foden but the 1st shot is of it in 1966 parked outside a cafe on the A420 through Swindon, taken by my old pal Adrian Cypher…then it turned up in Cornwall then heading back up north to join T.E.Ps
,hope these are of interest,Cheers Bubbs,
That first pic was taken outside the Park Cafe on Faringdon rd nr the railway village.
The building is still there, albiet an Itie resturant.

Your right Trev - we always had great banter with John on the North of England 2-day runs
Hi Marc,
Great nostalgic pics as usual.Nice to see " The Direct Transport " Foden from Gobowen. It used to be good seeing their wagons still on the road long after most firms had moved onto the newer stuff.
Cheers Dave.
Hi Marc
Ditto what Dave said, some cracking motors there…
Re the Foden eight legger DGG 6… In your pic its green, in mine a couple of pages back, she’s blue. I know mine was taken around '91, can you remember when and where you took yours? Definitely a purposeful looking old girl…
Hello again lads,The old 8 Wheel Foden heavy haulage tractor Paul was took at Stourpaine, not sure of the year but at the time it was owned by Foden enthusiast Ian Perrett, its been about for years and still looks good.Heres todays stuff,I wonder if the one on the back of the low-loader in the 1st pic was ever finished…I dont think the large mirrors were standard on that model ,Cheers Bubbs,
Bye 'ell Bubbs, some handsome machines there. Top class.
Hi Marc
Behind your pic of Siddle Cooks Contractor is this old girl…is she still around I wonder?
Just a few more from Truckfest again - including a Constructor that was driven by my mate until he retired, fresh out of the box - and a couple of random’s to finish off with…
