MOC, great pics there. the Vanguard motors in particular. They had a place in Greenford Middx, just of the A40, and were regulars in our shop for brake roller testing and tacho seals.
We used to call them the undertakers, because if they showed up at your factory you were out of work.
I make you right there Paul john.iv remember seeing them in action clearing the machines out of some of them big companys .
excellent name for them i think “the Undertakers”
Didn’t they also have the job of transporting the christmas tree to Trafalgar square every year ?
Trev, I think you are right about the Christmas tree and iirc there was a write up in one of the mag’s about it.
Vanguard were not the best payers about, but those guys used to put mega hours in.
there was some good blokes on vanguards I got my rear wheels stuck in the grounds of a new factory in Soham and before I got out the cab a vanguard f10 was nosing onto me ready to pull me out not sure if that would happen now , fredm
I’m sure Felgate Transport were on Ripple Road Barking, next door to A E Evans Regent Transport. The drivers used to go into The Ship and Shovel boozer side of the A13,very handy for a jar.
A nice photo.
what happened to the company Merzario - are they still going? I used to see a lot of their trailers, especially the kangaroo types in the Fiat factory in Warrington (which has now been demolished)
bubbleman:
Hi again, good stuff MOC…Heres todays old stuff from me,Cheers Bubbs,
The 6x4 f88,according to my dad was pictured at Scottish Motor Show in the Kelvin Hall. The lorry was based at Chivas Brothers in Paisley, then spent a couple of months working out of Seagrams in Speke before returning to Chivas at Paisley. The reg was whs757h.Was driven at paisley by Gillie Martin and at Speke by Danny Cavanagh.
This Volvo 8wheeler has got to be a very unique motor I have never seen this chassis used this way before. (But I stand to be corrected) Regards Kevmac47.
