Hi again, nice pic truckfing…you cant beat the way the scottish lads turn out a lorry, heres a few more from the M.A.N brouchure,Cheers Bubbs,
Aye a remember Martin Black, they had a place at the top end of Broad Chare on Newcastle Quayside, a warehouse of some sort I think not too big as I recall, Im sure they had a 4 wheeler flat based there, Regards Larry.
hi bubbleman, that photo of martin black brought back a lot of memories, used to deliver wire rope from dawson ushers sunderland to martin black’s factory at coatbridge, this was back in the mid 60ty early 70ty,suppose that they are close down like many of the other rope making company’s that operated at that time,or got swallowed up by british rope’s and closed,

Hi lads,heres todays oldies,Cheers Bubbs,
hiya,
Now then Bubbs I’ll bet you a cup of tea you can’t guess which motor
in the first pic I’d prefer to drive, er’ do you take sugar.
thanks harry, long retired.
Hello Harry,I dont take sugar mate,I’m sweet enough already ,I guess you would have driven all those types of wagons in the first pic but my money is on the Queensgate Leyland and dangler…they were part of Ridings I believe.
Cheers Bubbs,

hiya,
Marc, by golly how did you guess that?? that particular Queensgate motor was “mint”
saw it doing the business on many occasions always a bit tidier than the identical one
I was driving for the BRS at the same time, have passed that one on several occasions
mine for some reason was a little bit “nippier” and have offered him my cigarette lighter
when going passed him quite a few times, and my trailer boy would have offered him
a length of “towing” rope if he had been awake, there was a bit of fun in the driving
game in those days of yore when drivers spoke to each other.
thanks harry, long retired.
OK, so I guess that many (most?) of us have identified all the motors, from the bottom and right, Kew Dodge, Leyland, Bedford, Commer and Guy (how’m I doing? ) but how many have driven them all?
Me, every one apart from the Guy (if I’m right), and while I loved it when I was given an Otto for the 1st time, I think I had most fun in my Dodge.
I love those old motorway pictures, just shows us why we miss it all so much with all that space.
So, which bright spark can tell us where it was taken?
This old digger still fires up.

I have driven an older Guy artic with the back to front gearbox. The Bedford is Petrol engined -took my first driving test @ 17 in one of them. Drove the Dodge, think mine had a Perkins engine. Drove the Commer -front blow-out on M1.Had a BRS Leyland Comet Artic- gutless- with the same cab as the Octo.

Mine too 6.354, went like the wind, 75 mph max load up (whatever that was on a 28ft 4-in-line in the 60s ) down the M1 in the 3rd lane.
The Commer, I liked it and it’s flat floor walk across cab, but the noise, no wonder I’m a bit deaf now.
Mine too 6.354, went like the wind, 75 mph max load …They could go alright!!
Hello again, heres some more old pics…the 1st two shots are from a mag showing the facilities available for the then new Severn bridge, well Aust Services…the 1st is the lorry park and the 2nd is what the big fork lift picked up after a blow over,I’ve travelled over the old bridge hundreds of times,it looks so narrow up to the new bridge and I have had the trailer wheels on one side leave the tarmac in high winds myself ,Cheers Bubbs,
I thought it was only the council workers that lean on things…
Good memories of the old Severn bridge and Aust services. I remember going over the new bridge in the truck for the first time and how differant it seemed.
Heres some pictures that may have been here before related to Walls truck services who had the garage at Aust and wreckers on standby at the old bridge for many years. Some pics are from Walls website apologise if others are anyone elses.
Neil.
Sometimes when the trailer wheels lifted going over the old bridge they didn’t come straight back down.
