hiya,
Jonto, is the body on the two AECs from the 50s and the 60s the same one ?,
if so it’s a credit to the builder having lasted well especially on that job.
thanks harry long retired.
I don’t know either Harry, but one thing that makes it look unlikely is the 50s AEC was snapped at a much later date. Check out the large mirrors on it compared to the small, possibly original ones, on the 60s model. They could have been both in the fleet at the same time.
Just to clarify this , Road Transport media Ltd own the copyright to all Commercial Motor, Motor Transport, Truck & Driver and Truck magazines content… this website is owned by the same company , Bubbleman has our explicit permission to reproduce the content that we own on this website … further we are intending to provide him with further content to keep the scrapbook memories thread fresh
What no-one has any right to do is to reproduce anything that we or they dont own the copyright too. What we also do not wish is for our copyrighted content to be copied onto other sites, that is why images are watermarked.
If we are made aware of anything that is posted in breach of the copyrights owners wishes as soon as we are notified we will remove that content.
Just giving a credit/link to where the content was lifted from is not enough specific permission must be obtained. Nynehead is one such group that has allowed some of its images to be posted here, but only by those given specific permission to do so… They dont have to do that, and could stop all and any of the images they own being displayed.
If we all want to continue to enjoy rare images then we have to all stop extracting the urine and ask the copyright owners permission and not simply rip them off.
These pictures appear to be in the public domain, no obvious copyright. They are so evocative of a now past world that it seems a pity not to share them, does anyone know anything of their origins? The operator was in the south east. Have I posted on the wrong thread, do you want me to move or remove them? I have a large collection of pictures accumulated over the years, in most cases I cant remember where they came from.

Hey Harry, thought beef tended to be mono legged, shouldered a few quarters in my younger days…
…me to long retired…Jonto
hiya,
My mistake Jonto, quarters they were and only one leg is right, still heavy for the
inexperienced drag them to the tail end then lift them down and a bollocking from
the porters if you let them go a bit heavy onto their shoulders, these weren’t fridge
vans either just insulated boxes each quarter interspaced with a bag of dry ice which
you had to find somewhere to dispose of it, your return load could be anything in those
days I’ve even backloaded electrical goods and boxes of Italian tiles, imported into the
country and distributed from London, still they was happy days hard but happy eh’.
thanks harry long retired.

Hi again,Jonto…The thing that Rikki put up was not directed at you mate, someone on the North east thread had a go at me for copyrighting issues regarding cuttings on the scrapbook…so carry on posting
Thanks bubbs. The 1950’s AEC 8 wheeler has a name board above the cab “W E Reeve Ltd.” Perhaps the picture was taken in a dealer’s or breaker’s yard with the box just dropped on the back.
I am after some specific photos.
I am the Manager for Exelby Services and i am after old pictures of trucks using the A1 (in the north of englend) and the A66/A6 etc (ref our Golden Fleece site at Carlisle). When we get the new site on the new A1M at Londonderry i would like to do a display of how the A1 has changed over the years.
Can anyone help?

the company used to trade as reeve & johnston and then went there own seperate ways.
w e reeve moved to sittingbourne and johnstons still ran from detling near the kent county showground, where tod jonston still runs from.
perhaps if you dont mind you would post the pictures on the kent thread where i feel more information will come to light
