Scrap Metal Firms

Anyone do this line of work? Good way to get free truck bling judging from the number of pimped metal wagons.
Please note this is not caravan using lead stripping gangs but proper companies. Ta.

Whitecross Metals; Nice Foden 4000s; If they still have them. Metal Salvages’ old motors all seem to be enjoying second careers with small contracting companies.

EMR are looking for a driver in Brentford if anyone fancies a bash at it.

If it’s bling you want, these are the guys for you;

Aren’t they the guys with the depot at Swindon? Used to be Coopers who had big Poclain 360s.

Could be mate, I think they’re the biggest scrap processors in Europe :open_mouth: (Could be wrong though!)

Yes they’re still operating in Swindon.

EMR have depots all over the place, they’re on Oldham Road up here, and they’ve a place on Liverpool docks, but literally, I must have been to 10 EMR depots with containers.

EMR Swindon is I think the old “scrap line” of Swindon GWR loco works hence the rail connection.

Reported in local papers and radio that Smiths of Bloxham and TM Rogers of Nuneham Courtenay, Oxford have been raided by police in metal theft bust: Undercover cops took labelled/marked electric cable into yards and cash paid no questions asked.

I’ve noticed a few new / newish ones about very smart looking motors.

I did a stint for Easco (now part of Sita) and certainly didn’t drive anything glamorous. Dirty job but paid the bills.

If you’re wanting to work for EMR, you shouldn’t have any hopes of picking up any “truck bling”, they’ll probably throw you out of the gate just as you start looking at it…
Most of EMR’s fleet (in swindon) are circa 03 plate volvo and scania, and probably spend most of their time waiting around for punctures to be fixed.
I used to run into EMR quite regularly, and always hated it, not a nice place to go.

Yo 8 wheels what happened to your blog

It sort of fizzled out when I bust my digi camera and I found the time I took doing it was quite useful for doing other stuff with.

Ah ha fair comment

If you were J Davidson, would you call your website “J Davidsons crap” ?

That’s another prime example of where putting a hyphen in your website name would help! The two I can remember best that had to change their names after they realised are the websites for “Experts Exchange” and “Powergen Italia”.
