Hi Oily, I see from your photo Rapsons have joined the all white livery brigade, shame after having such a traditional livery for so many years. I wonder if they had this livery in 1901 ■■
Cheers, Leyland 600.
Cracking Rapson pics Leyland600, blue, red and gold in a balanced combination IMHO is a nice livery, no idea how long that has been their “colours”, unfortunately old B&W doesn’t tell us a lot, anyway here’s another.

Hi Oily, I can remember seeing Rapsons AEC Mercurys passing through Carlisle in the late 1950s early 60 with this classic livery.
Glad you like my recent posting., Cheers, Leyland 600

When we were going north, Carlisle was a days run from Cowley, always stayed at with Mrs Robinson, Corporation Rd., her husband Freddie was a driver with Robsons, after our meal it was along to The Malt Shovel (almost next door), couple of pints and a game o’ dominoes, sometimes a walk up the street to The Apple Tree, the attraction being the jukebox. The lorries heading south of a night seemed never ending, 'twas a sight to behold.

Aye Oily the were the days my friend, Haulage & The drivers at their best, All in the past sadley to say, But we are still here & able to think about those good old days , Regards Larry.
Hi Oily , can you remember all the Ribble buses lined up in Corporation Rd between the Malt Shovel and their garage entrance in Peter St at around 11-00 pm when they all came off service and were waiting to be refuelled. I was driving for Ribble in 1963-64. The pub is still there but I think the Apple Tree is something else now.
Cheers,
Leyland 600

Hi Leyland600, No can’t remember the buses, not at that time o’ night, Mrs Robinson had a 10.30pm curfew( she was up at 5am for 6am onwards breakfasts) and also the state owned Malt Shovel if I remember correctly closed at 9.30pm, may have been 10pm. Incidentally looking on a Google map I see it is now an Italian restaurant. For the most part of ‘67/68 I was running nights to Carlisle and would be at the digs just after 6am, dump the bag(jamas etc) and take the dog for a walk, through some scrubland at the back and across a flood meadow to the Eden and stroll the bank, he was very biddable, one word from me and he pleased his self his name was Ricky a wire haired fox terrier, hell that’s going on nearly 50 years and nowadays I’ve a job remembering 5 mins ago
Interesting articles here with regard to state owned pubs, blog.nationalarchives.gov.uk/blo … world-war/

Hi Oily that would be Bitts Park you would be walking the dog in alonside the River Eden, Corporation Road and the area all around it was flooded to a considerable depth in the 2005 Carlisle floods. Some house had water almost up to the first floor windows.
Take a look at this photo.
Cheers Leyland 600.
As the title says, just for an odd day or two as required at present so if anyone is upgrading an older trailer it may be just what I need, feel free to pm me with any offers you may have, can be on air or springs, disc or drums, crane front, middle or rear considered.
Sorry to hijack a nice thread but it looked a good place to get my request out.

Hi Leyland600, I remember it on the telly at the time, but that particular area has a lot of happy memories for me , such a shock and pity to see it like that, cheers for the link .

A few more to bring this thread back to page one, my input is mostly Highland or foreign and hardly represents the title, so apologies for that, tho’ may have some from ■■■■■■■ later when sorted.
