Yes I know, the retail sector and the fish processors around the area are predominantly eastern european staffed.

A very valid point. But im stuck here cos I married a Scot, stuck in Glasgow as well the worst town in uk. Imagine how I feel my young son growing up speaking Glaswegian.
I also married a local scots fishing village lass from the moray coast, and racism does exist here but I would never live back down south, too much a rat race. A few more D/Cs would not go amiss though and if the A9 was a motorway I would not have been done for doing 90 mph in a 60 area the other night, full moon, perfect drivin conditions and not another vehicle in sight for miles apart from one louse of a traffic cop. Bloody Scotland
Its quite obvious that the Scots have moved South to make room for the Poles.I parked my bike at the new transport museum in Glasgow this afternoon, some scrote stole the front light from it. The light cost a quid from Poundland. strangely enough.

Where did you get this bit of info Gogzy?
Govt spending per head in England £7,121, in Scotland £8,623 (2007 figures but proportions are still the same now), plus Scotland gets more EU Regional Development money per head as well
That’s your answer…

Isn’t the reason of it that Scotland is much more empty, so the costs of the various services per head has to be higher? (more miles of road per head, smaller schools, smaller hospitals, numerous ferry connections which have to be supported, harsher winters, more rain, so more damages to roads and other constructions etc etc?)
I am just asking?

Why cant the UK have a brilliant bypass that Edinboro has, what a breeze,no hold ups,it went on for miles.
In Europe most villages, towns and cities will have a by pass, the UK is a pain, all traffic goes through the centre, endless traffic lights, roundabouts, and so on.
I found the Scots to be more friendly and do not have an attitude with wagons.Bath and Bradford upon Avon have lorry spotters to log number plates,to pas to trading standards, who then pass it to the DVlA to give lorryists a whopping £1000 fine for crossing weight limits and bridges.NIMBYism is alive, but they like the cheap goods.
You were just lucky. Its certainly not like this during peak times or if there is a breakdown or accident etc
There are some truly terrible main roads linking major towns and cities in Scotland which are crying out for improvements and upgrades. The infrastructure is third world in places

No, not really.
The reason is largely historical - going back to the 1888 Goschen formula and Scotland recieved 11% of total Govt funding, England & Wales 80%, and Ireland 9% - based on simple population. Over time various interests have negotiated extra money for Scotland - arguing poorer housing, dispersed small population, which made the imbalance worse, but the main factor between 1888 and 1978 (when the Barnett formula came into play for extra Govt spending, but not for the existing spend) was that the population in England grew much faster than in Scotland so the same amount of money was being spread over a bigger population meaning that the English got less per head.
By 1978 the imbalance was recognised but no-one was prepared to face the consequences of cutting Scottish funding by 20% to get a balance back, and of course there is no way spending could increase to the Scottish level for England.
Barnett sometimes gets the blame for the lack of fairness but he wasn’t trying to solve the whole problem - he was just dealing with the allocation of new monies

Hm, TIL, thank you. Still, even if it’s not the direct reason, surely it is the fact that due to less number of heads per square mile Scottish services have to be more expensive?

Some may be more expensive, that’s true, but other’s may be less expensive, eg a lot more crime in cities.
There are some funding formulas that take account of bigger differences, eg Welsh Ambulance Service gets extra to reflect rurality, (but North Yorkshire and ■■■■■■■ don’t).
Doesn’t explain the 20% difference though

Hi mates, this message is not about Scotland but i hope my message makes sense.
Many small and large cities in Sweden has bypass ways often E4. Not long ago it feels, we had to struggle trough towns and cities. Now we have wide roads and resting places here and there with toilets and benches so one can eat or drink. Some have large round containers of heavy plastic material as is down the surface and is for junk. When it is full they lift it up and replace it with a new. Also we have truck stops but long from each other. They have parking lots and restaurants. But if they also have truckers corner i.e. for watching your face or take a shower.

M74 Extension — ■■■■■ brilliant, although the surface could be beter.
M80 – Starting to think it’s a huge waste of money, maybe slightly improved journey times but still stop start from auchenkilns to the arches, why the ■■■■ only two lanes, they can waste vast sums on stupid ■■■■■ art thingys but they cant do an extra 2 mile of tar and put 3 lanes straight through, arse holes.
