Scania Two Pedal Opticruise CH and CL

I have just moved into a 2015 R450, Scania two pedal Opticruise, after driving a Volvo for many years.

I have a query about the gearbox, I have read the book provided by Scania and cant find the answer, so am hoping someone on here can help me.

I have discovered that if I select drive or reverse and while still parked, I push the stalk forward to select 1st gear R or D, then push it forward again, I get a gear displayed as CH and if I push the stalk forward again I get another gear displayed as CL.

Can anyone please help me and tell me what these two gears CH and CL are? And how best to use them?

I know that they are not maneuvering / crawler gears as the Scania manual, says that to select maneuver / crawler, you need to hold the stalk forward until an M is displayed on the dash, and I have been using this regularly.

I just want to know what these mystery CH and CL gears are.

Many thanks for all help in advance.

If you assume it means crawl high and crawl low I would guess it’s two speed crawl

Crawler High and Crawler Low. These are special low speed gears that give you maximum grunt for getting heavy loads up hills or away from standing starts on heavy haulage with little or no damage to the clutch.

If you haven’t been told about them its unlikely you will ever need to use them. Unless you go into Seaforth Dock, where they insist on Crawler gears over the weighers.
