Drove a 4 series opticruise pre 2000 and it was the worst setup i ever had, then i drove an '06 R500 opticruise it was alot better but why a clutch pedal.
Have a manual Scaina can pull away in 2H or 3L easily don’t think i’ve every used first gear in the three and half years i’ve had it from new!

i seem to remember reading that they included the clutch pedal to give the driver more control when reversing. compare it to a DAF CF and you can see the difference although im not a fan of any autos. give me a 4 over 4 any day (which rules out giving me a scania )

brilliant topic thanks guys , i think i’m getting a 3pedal version next, matter of fact i know it will be as it’ll be a 07/57 plate & these posts are a great help , the only thing i think i’ll get cought otu is the clutch pedal, i’ve been on I-shift the last 4 years , i can see me stalling at a lot of roundabouts
Me too, going from auto stralis to this weird pedal thingy… Guess its going to be a nice “steady” week getting used to it Then when you do, jump in the car and rev the nuts off 1st gear wondering why it’s not changing automatically
in the last 6 months i have had to test various makes all with autoboxes to replace our manual merc axors, out o f daf iveco, volvo, man, merc, scania came out worst,it was that slow on pickup from r/abouts t/lights etc i thought it was dangerous, also at 56mph on the motorway it could not work out which gear it wanted to be in,prior to this the last scania i had driven was a old e reg 3 series i think, which was a good motor,so i was supprised how bad the new scania was.also it was only average on fuel consumption against the man or merc.which for our company was another black mark against it.
Muckaway,
Yeah they are sluggish to start off and the turbo lag is totally zb, run it in manual thats what i do. I drive a R420 2500 miles a week but have used R500 V8’s and to be frank even when Ive got 24 ton of cheese on her back there aint much difference in the units. Reversing is another matter, when you get to bays its like an elastic band, really odd to get use to. Having said all that, I wouldnt swap her, keep your DAF, MAN,Mercs the scanny is the best euro unit for my money, there aint much that gets past me on a hill loaded, she pulls like a train and handles like one on the bends, drives better than my own car!
We have a fleet of these new opticruise Scania R440s and to be honest they are a complete waste of time, The auto box has to be the worst I have ever had in a truck.
Also what does not help is our brain dead transport managers insisting on dissconecting the Kickdown/Hillclimb and of course limiting them to 52mph.
As for the start off gear you can select auto/1st/2nd/3rd yourself from the tools menu.
At present we are hard pressed to get seven and a half to the gallon on these trucks, also forget climbing hills as they are useless, what I would do to have my megaspace back.
Mike.
Moley has obviously ■■■■■■ someone off large…i-shift to an opticruise…how crap is that
That must be like jumping from a Rolls Royce to a Ford Anglia
put twin spliters in em all and be done with it
