Scania R series OBD Cable

hi people

i am thinking about purchasing a after market obd cable for my 06 scania. I was wondering if anyone has had any experinse with one of these. Now my mechanic has had other leads from the same company but only on cars. can anyone advise please

Im pretty sure that all obd plugs are ‘supposed’ to be wired the same. Some EU directive iirc.
If thats the case then any obd cable should do, however I’d be more concerned about what you are plugging on the other end. There is a permanent live feed in the obd plug, on a truck I would imagine this is 24volt. I’d be very carefull connecting any code reader to it. Check it first with a multimeter to be sure what voltage is present, then make sure the code reader is capable of handling 24volts.

You can get a code reader doobry off eBay for about £12, which lunks to your laptop via WiFi. The software is a free download and gives you loads of extra info. I’ll out the details on here over the weekend if you’re interested (can’t remember them at present)

Think you need a VCI2 cable to connect to scanias. This needs to be plugged into a laptop running Scania SDP3 with a security USB stick attached. This gives you access to full dealer settings. Can change pretty much any settings on the vehicle with this as well as read faults and view repair guides, wiring diagrams etc. I got a Chinese copy version off Ebay, and works fine. Wouldn’t like to guess how much scania would charge for an official version.

How much was it. The ones I found has been 800€ witch is just to much.
Really can’t see the point of getting an universal obd since you will only see fault codes (and you can also see through the display(older R using the clock buttons, type II in the settings menu), don’t think you will get to read live stuff.
