work as a fitter in a company who run 2 scania toplines 61 plates n 10 renault premiums from 56 plates to 60 plates i think scanias are a far better truck but the fleet engineer says renault are a better truck wat do you all think
Fleet engineer would say that cos the premiums are cheaper to run on fuel and parts. Also alot cheaper to buy. But as a driver, I rate the premium better than scania’s.
Scania seats give me back ache. The switchgear is illogical and the three pedal auto a bit silly. They are expensive and you pay for the name. Renault’s seem better seat wise but it’s French so the electrics are pretty poor. Gearbox is nice and seems OK on power. The best value truck is the Renault by a mile. If I were buying I’d avoid Scania purely because I find them very uncomfortable and they are overpriced.
From a tramper’s point of view, and being a big lad, I would have the Scania, bigger cab more room better storage, size does matter. (despite what I tell the wife
)
1st prize, win a renault. 2nd prize, win 2. scania all the way.

730 Scania with all the toys and an owner with a history of low wages and rubber payslips or a 450 Premium with no payment problems not the best payer but it will be in the bank on Friday . You choose
its one thing if your young free and single - when you have people to provide for toys and bling tend to take a back seat over making sure the money is in the bank .
that said if you can get the 730 with good money in the bank - go for it .
Renault Magnum…7 years old…910,000 k’s fitted a new radiator and exhaust so far.Quite exceptional piece of kit and I have owned 3 Scania’s including a Centurion just think Scania got it wrong with the 4 series.Never liked the cab so I didn’t buy one.
Scania have been crap since the four series was released simple.I have drawn loads of designs to improve the cab but i’m not going to give them to scania so they can make more money out of it.I should have listened to me dad and gone to art college rather than drive a truck!

I completely agree with this. There was a time, many years ago, when Volvo and Scania were head and shoulders above anything else but those days have long gone.
I think Harry the new Volvo which should also come out in Renault form…according to the top tester in France…might just be something exceptional,I hope it is.

I thought it would happen it makes economic sense, but I really hoped Volvo would let Renault do something a bit different.
Maybe let Volvo be Evolution and Renault be Revolution, might not sell as many but would make a great test platform for new ideas.
As a boss I would say renault based on cheap to buy and cheap to run,but having just done nearly 3k in a r series auto i would prefer as a driver the Scania my worry in running a premium would be can i get rid of it when i need to where as any Scania I have run have had several offers on
I think now the renault has volvo engine/box they will sell easier
