scania opticruise

I drive a scania 4 series with opticruise, its the one with the gearstick not the steering wheel control. After been on holiday over christmas i come back to my truck to find it is setting off in 1st gear all the time where as it used to set off in 4th. I think that the other driver has been messing around with it. I know there is away to alter it but cant remember how to do it and just wondered if anybody knows how to do it?

There 2 different types

1 you can set in the menu

The other, you have to start up, put clutch in, put in auto, then use the padels to select the gear you want (ie 4), keep clutch in, leave it in 4 for a second, then select neutral and release clutch, I think it confirms it on the dash.

Someone with more recent experience might be able to put it better, it’s a LONG time ago I last drove 1

m4rky in another thread:
Try re-programming the gear that you pull away in. To do this

  1. Turn the ignition on
  2. Select A
  3. Push the clutch to the floor
  4. Select AH
  5. Manually select the gear that you want to pull away in (3 or 4)
  6. Select N
  7. Lift the clutch

You will hear a ping from the dash and from then onwards when ever you select A it will automatically go into the pull away gear that you have chosen.

I don’t understand? It has a gearstick?

So in Auto does it start in the pre-selected gear regardless of gradient or weight?

Yes

More sort of a joy stick a little longer but you get the idea

Yes

So is pulling away in 4th with 44 tonnes and uphill really good for clutch wear?

It may have been reset when it went in for a service, like all of our rigids were at my previous depot…the ability to reset them to a higher gear was also removed, as it was claimed that many of the drivers were setting them to use 4th as the ‘pull away’ gear and this was destroying the clutches when loaded…and some of the drivers didn’t have the sense to knock it into something lower for a 'loaded/uphill pull away. I used to reset mine to 4th so that the crap box wouldn’t go from 5th to 3rd at roundabouts and leave you doing 10mph, wringing the ■■■■■ out of it. Can’t actually remember how to change the gear (not had one for 7years) but I think it was switch it off, ignition on, knock the stick over to show 4th, lift the collar and move the stick up into R and back into M…you will get the beep if successful. It doesn’t take long to work out the correct method if one is incorrect. You will notice that once you have changed the gear, the box is still a pile of she-ite!!

Am I being thick? How can it be opticruise and have a manual gearstick??

try approaching a round about and then wanting to pull away whilst still moving slightly. The bloody thing goes in to neutral and won’t let you pull off until it selects a gear

Not a fan of opticruise.

Shame as I use it daily

You could call it the Mk1, so they had another bash and put the selector on the flippy paddle thingy. This is the early type on a lefty…

Cheers Actrosman, that looks like a right weird contraption.

Never seen that early version, looks weird.

same as the old Merc auto box …
We had 1 auto Scania same as that at Safeway in Bristol no-one was allowed to drive it unless they were trained :unamused: funny there were only 4 drivers trained on it, but then John in the office didn’t give a stuff and gave it out to anyone

tats the same as mine its a really short gearstick. it was fine setting off in 4th as its a rigid and never has much weight on it. i tried to re- program it last night without any luck. ive tried to google it to see if there are any instructions on the net anywhere but having no luck, if anybody has an instruction book on one that i could copy i would appreciate it

Carnt remeber now but sure you turn the ign on select the gear you want and pull the stick back quick?? and then forward again its a diffrent set up to change from the flappy paddle stick on the steering colum. the joy stick one is easyier to do and i am sure its done in a quick pull/push on the joy stick i should no i have had one long enuff   but cannot remeber D"oh
