Haha. Thought as much!

Put it this way, my brother, who worked for Virginia too, considered a move from a Volvo Globetrotter XL to aHighline Scania a move up. Just to be clear, unlike me he’s not a truck man, he has no preference for any truck, but considered the Scania far better.

I would never ever swap my XL for a highline. No storage space compared to the Volvo, just a crappy shelf above the windscreen, a drawer and the top bunk.

And it has opticruise.
And you have to build your bunk each night.
And it gave me backache.

Can you tell i wasn’t keen on mine?

Whats the money like ?

It was manual for manual. The Scania may not be great for storage but the Volvo is awful for overall space with that sloping front. I don’t get this backache thing with Scanias, i’ve been driving one for three and a half years and it the most comfortable truck I’ve driven, and the new bunk is something else. But horses for courses we all like different things.

There will always be pros and cons when moving out of another motor into a new one. I’ve just moved into a “normal” height Scania R420 from my Stralis, and ive had enough of asking for it back as it just aint happening. So gotto live with the Scanny.

Old mans got a highline, and certainly alot better then mine! - driving position not the best in the world, only ONE electric mirror, top bunk is about as wide as a ■■■ paper, hmm, prob few more but i can’t remember.

On the plus side, if its a mnaual, it will be alot better then opticrap…sorry, opticruise. They look nice? Good size ONE outside locker, which it needs to be considering there isn’t any others.

I’m with you on the backache thing Luke, I’m inclined to think that statement is BS, something overheard in a waiting room, or if true, maybe that the seat is not adjusted correctly :bulb:

The whole Scania backache thing goes back to the days of 110s when they had a multileaf spring assembly on the back end, this was a little bouncy, it was improved by the parabolic set up on the 111s, but was still a little bit harsh, then the original 6 wheelers with the sprung/hydraulic rear lift axle were a hard ride, these could give you a kick in the back on a bumpy road, except on the Toplines with their air suspended cab, but any air ride Scania will ride the same as any other air suspended lorry.

The backache saga was resurrected by some Tesco drivers with the P cabbed 4 series, they stated that because of engine tunnel intrusion they couldn’t sit straight so they had back pain as a result, a highline doesn’t have that engine tunnel, so…

I don’t think I’d swap a GlobeyXL for a highline though, well not if I was doing a lot of nights out (or tramping as it’s now called  ) the Scania is the nicer lorry to drive, but the Volvo has a lot of storage, the windscreen slope has never caused me any problems and I’m not a small chap

I think that those that bang on about the Scania backache thing still believe in the Easter bunny and Father Christmas
(which means they’ll go quiet shortly, they’ll be busy with crayons writing an important letter!)

I’ve owned 2 Scanias and a Volvo. Pros and cons in all. Scania always been most comfortable cos of air suspended cab. As for highline? I don’t dis like them. Top bunk would have to go in favour of some top lockers.

It certainly wouldn’t be worth quitting yr job over. You’ll have what yr given and thats that. Get over it or buy yr own. (I’m not having a pop at anyone, thats just the way I see it)

Important letter sent! :stuck_out_tongue:

It was more shoulders and neck that ached. I don’t know why. I’ve driven a 4 series and found it one of the most comfortable drives ever. All i can think of was that there was nowhere to rest my left arm. There being no arm rest or gearstick. Or maybe just plain ol poor seat adjustment. Just speaking as i find.

And no, it’s not worth quitting a job over. I drove mine for a year til i got laid off.

i tramp in scania highline its an 07 plate, my storage space is the top bunk, the shelf above screen is small, and i can tell you i do get lower back ache, they are quite small inside but i suppose iits ok for 5 day tramping, i personally think the volvo is a better machine, the scania bed is thin so i use a quilt for extra padding, if there was a pro least you dont have to worry about adblue
