Scania eco roll built to wind others up?

rob22888:
I have been driving Scania’s for so long now my foot instinctively presses down the accelerator when I feel eco-roll kicking in to override the stupid thing. Barely makes a blind bit of difference to fuel figures.

Nice idea perhaps to save fuel on quiet roads with no one behind you, but not fit for purpose on busy UK motorways to be dropping 4/5mph at you crest a hill just to speed up again. It just results in unnecessary overtaking.

I believe you can turn it off by putting the gearbox into ‘P’ mode, but thats disabled on our motors

Yeah on ours some of them have P mode which does disable it but other newer ones don’t have that. Only A or AE, both which have the eco roll built in. Also with P if you forget to turn it off then when your off the motorway it stays in a gear too long and records over revving on the telematics. Can’t win lol.

I generally have a look in my mirror once I feel it kick in. Someone close? I put my foot down to disable it. No one close? I tend to just leave it. Someone too close so I could see them in the mirror? Well that’s there fault then and I see which way the mood takes me as to whether I override it or not. Although I’ll still allow them back in if they do overtake.

Other driver hasn’t slowed down so your now both doing 55 leaving other driver out in the lane.

Love it. Winds drivers up so much.

DickyNick:
Typical car driver attitude of thinking one thing applies to all situations. Are you sure your a professional driver?

DickyNick:
So there you go shove that up your arse clever ■■■■.

Edit to add
Rule 260
When you can see well ahead and the road conditions are good, you should
.drive at a steady cruising speed which you and your vehicle can handle safely and is within the speed limit

If you are choosing to slow down and speed up are you doing this?

I don’t think momentarily slowing from 55 to about 51/52 then a few seconds later back up to 55 constituents as breaking that rule whilst using a manufacturer installed fuel saving system. We aren’t talking about steady speeds here anyway. Your just changing the subject because you know I’ve just made you look an idiot by proving you wrong re the rules of overtaking on a motorway with evidence directly from the current Highway Code to back me up.

Wouldn’t expect anything less from a failed copper :unamused:

Have you taken up daytime drinking since you flounced off trucknet?

DickyNick:

Youre quite correct. It isnt steady speeds here:
You slow down, another vehicle keeping to a steady speed pulls out to overtake you, and you then accelerate.

If you wish to put all the blame on

DickyNick:
using a manufacturer installed fuel saving system.

feel free to do so.
I would think that the previous comments I`ve already quoted from Juddian, Hiabman, and Maoster deal quite well with that:
YOU are responsible for the speed your vehicle is travelling at.

Ive never met you, so wont jump to any conclusions about whether or not you

DickyNick:
look an idiot

But I may form some opinion on your idiocy from your attitude.

Well done. A demonstration of sparkling wit, and the sort of repartie that would make Oscar Wilde jealous.

Eco roll on the MANs must be different/better then as I purposely trigger it by doing the following…

On cruise @55 (according to the digital speed readout)
See a nice steady decline up ahead
Deactivate CC
Eco 9/10 times now kicks in
Eco now either remains on for the duration of the decline maintaining something like a 54-55-56 mph range or climbs higher than 56 and the EB kicks in or it drops to 53 and I re-engage the CC
If you leave the CC on the limiter then it’s quite rare that Eco roll kicks in and when it does it usually doesn’t stay on for more than a handful of seconds anyway, so if another lgv is passing me (rare cos my truck doesn’t hang around) then I just stay on the CC and maintain my current speed or knock it down a few clicks if it’s an elephant racer anyway.

But then again when I’m driving the truck I’M DRIVING THE TRUCK not the truck driving me, I also shift (and EB) manually when fully freighted and never have these pulling away from roundabouts issues that others constantly seem to complain about.

Do you have the new Traxton box in your MAN as that is box is a totally different creature

I’ve only just taken to driving modern scannies for the first time recently. I DID wonder WTF all this “slowing down near the crest of a hill” was all about? It certainly upset the Stobart up my chuff approaching the summit of Wrotham Hill yesterday, and he’s driving - another scania!

I did find the seat comfortable though. I may become a convert yet! :open_mouth:

hiabman:
I’ll override it and anticipate when it is due to kick in.
It’s a PITA.
Half the time it starts slowing down far too soon.
Not sure about enjoying winding other drivers up - if they’re alongside for long I’ll be the better man and let them pass.

Mmm, I read a lot of comments on this forum like this, how we should slow down and let others back into the granny lane, it’s fair comment, but it’s funny, I have to say though, I don’t see much of this when I’m on the road,

Yeah it’s the Trax… Something. As I can see part of the name from on the catwalk (will look properly tonight)
It’s also the 500hp like mentioned above.

I did look btw, and you can literally only see “Trax” as the rest is obscured by the catwalk decking plate…

So yes it definitely has the Trax… Gearbox.
