Well I’ve got to say that I have to buck the trend slightly as when I was starting up as an O/D I was in the market for a brand new TOP SPEC/POWER unit (sadly circumstances meant I bought s/hand in the end but thats a different story).
I approached ALL the manufacturers via their web sites & visited the local (less than 2 miles from my home) DAF & Volvo dealers neither of which have sales people on site.I left my details and the specs of what I wanted at both these dealers and on the web sites.
The ONLY response I got was from the area Scania salesman who I met at his home office and was extremely helpful and gave me some good advice re becoming an O/D.(kinda makes me feel guilty about buying the volvo now but it was the best motor available at the time and I never bought it from a main dealer)
I am especially disappointed at volvo as a good friend of mine is the service manager at the local dealer and he tried on numerous occaisions to get the salesman to ring me but to no avail.
I will be in the market for a new truck next year and the first call I make will be to the scania salesman the next will be to the grey importers then daf then volvo possibly
