what i can’t get my head around is that if scania’s are so great why don’t they make bonnet release catch that works, ie the plastic handle snaps or when you pull the handle you have to wedge your air Suspension box between the catch and the door pillar so you can lift the front to check the oil ect…the answer is (we spent everything on the engine for mpg and to hell with the driver including the seats) …jonny.
i didnt know scania had a bonnet release, ive always just pulled the bonnet up.

i think some scania’s had the cable cut so you could lift the front…we at stobart still have to go threw the pull catch next to the the drivers door hinge,

I can confirm the relase catch is by the drivers door, trouble is being as most ppl dont check the oil the mechanism becomes gritty and dry …therefore it snaps …dont blame Scanny …blame the drivers
Soooooo much Scania hating going on this weekend …you should all be ashamed of yourselves …specially Jessicas Dad

are you stalking me . it was actually the 4 series i was talking about that i used to drive at stobbies and cos i was agency i drove a different one every day.
ive just drove an r series for a week and that was the same.
JD, the 4 series didn’t have a bonnet release catch, it was held down with the gas struts, the R series has the bonnet release on the door pillar of the drivers door.
as for them not being used so they break, that is the biggest load of crap i have heard, a friend of mine had an R series with the V8 engine, clean tidy truck, owned it from new, all the toys, checked the oil every morning before he left the yard, it still snapped
so what was that from? over use?
oh, and Gogzy, i didn’t expect it being you that quoted it, i was expecting my internet stalker doing it first
When i pull the catch on mine I have to give the bonnet a shove to get it to release as it dont pop up no more, stupid design
Don’t know why they bothered with the stupid catch they didn’t have it on the 4 series
i thought it was funny and yes i dont think your stalker has seen it yet so lets see if he notices it.
Our 59 plates don’t have the release handle-just give the front a wee tug and bobs your dads brother!

if you pull the handel and reach under the door, you can push the bonnet open from there
thats if the handle’s not broke in the first place

The last of the 4 series did have the bonnet catch, i was always getting locked out of mine, you can get into them easy enough but you need the grille open to do it, we had to tilt cab a bit with grille shut so as to get hand up back to pull cable at catch’s on grille.

The real problem is that the handle has to pull about 4 cables in tandem, which is too much leverage. that’s why most were modified ‘in the field’ by drilling the air intake and passing the cable through it.
The handbook says ‘’ pull the handle until it clicks twice’’ They later added an amendment ‘’ if it clicks 3 times replace the handle’’ All they had to do is make the lever AND the bracket out of metal instead of just the bracket.
While we’re on it, why have lower door hinges started cracking on R Seies, I don’t remember this problem on 4 Series.
I stiil think you can’t beat 'em, this is chicken ■■■ compared to DAF adblue troubles and oil consumption…

well i don’t disagree, however for a 50 grand motor ish the attention to detail fails me and don’t even get me going with the floor mats that catch on the clutch pedal jonny.
