The V8 stuff starts about 30 minutes in. He goes for a good old blast. Fuller enthusiasts knocking the Scania 10 speed 'box, for slow shifts, may look a bit sheepish.

I’ve always maintained that the old Scania 10sp box was the best synchro around until DAF started fitting ZFs properly!
I’m building a Scania 140 6x2 rigid with a lift axle together with a drawbar trailer in about one third scale (1 divided by 2.6666 ), has anyone got a square headlamp model that they could measure the headlamp for me please. I’ve found some square lamps and scaled up they would be 8" x 4" ■■

The ZF range change in the LPS V10 Mercs took some beating - maybe very slightly bettered by the box in the F12.

1:2.666= 3/8 scale. Sorry to seem like a pedant, but no one wants a Spinal Tap Stonehenge moment.
I can’t recall any square-lamp LB people being TNUK members, but you could always give this bloke a call:

I’ll take your word for the LPS Merc! I agree that the F12 was pretty good (the earlier ones, that is: I was never a fan of the later 3-position shift shape). If I’m honest, the very best manual syncro box I ever used was (and this blew me away and messed up a few prejudices!) a ZF 9-sp 'box in a DAF 65 CF Mk2 18-tonner on an 03 plate I briefly drove for Gist!

Thanks but that’s a bit far away from me to go measuring, need some cab measurements as well, also need a side on view of 141 or 111 so as I can get the cab looking right, it’s difficult to tell someone where to measure or what pictures to take as I don’t really know until I stand beside one and assess how I’m going to make it. Men who make small models shun me because hardly anyone tries making models big enough to actually drive.
P.S. don’t understand ‘Spinal Tap Stonehenge moment.’

You could do a drawing, with the dimension lines struck from places that are easy to measure, and ask a vehicle owner to put numbers on the dimensions.
Thank you for the explanation
I did get some measurements from a very obliging driver down south but don’t want to trouble him again he went out of his way to help, the measurements make sense but the drawing I made from scaled down figures come out slightly wrong, I’m thinking the figures could be ever so slightly out which would make a big difference when scaled down. Still need overall cab height from the wheel centre and sleeper cab panel size, distance from vertical gutter to wheel centre, rear axle spread etc etc. Also need a side view of a rigid with sleeper and later type wings.
i have a few drawings from Scania off the web but they give information I don’t need for instance cab floor to door aperture and I only have artic unit drawings with measurements on, I do have rigid drawings but not much help. I have also to decide how long the flatbed / tilt should be, drawbar length and length of trailer.
The model has to look right for my satisfaction and also there are some very picky people at the shows I will be taking it to, my 40ft trailer model (13ft long) was accepted as looking very real, even had working landing legs, lights and small details like ropehooks, a backscotch and ropes and sheets, not a perfect replica but it ‘looked’ right. Trouble with a model cab is that it will look silly if the dimensions are wrong, wrong size lights or grill slats etc.
I’ll get there somehow and stick some pictures up as I go, starting on the cab summer I hope, chassis, axles and engine/gearboxes still in planning stage, it will have to sound like a 141 so I’ll doctor the V twin exhuast to suit.
I agree- you can’t be too fussy. If it’s right, it will be the king of all models. If it’s wrong, even in a detail, it will be horrible. Just my opinion; I have spent most of my life gazing at LBs. I’m no professional felt tip fairy, but I reckon the shape of that cab is one of the greatest pieces of industrial design of all.

Be intrested in seeing some pics of your models ?
Dont know if these pics from a 140 brochure are any help.(no spec sheets in it) Unfortunately round headlights.
Another brochure with a spec sheet.

Very helpfull, thank you.
Couple of pictures of the trailer I’m going to shorten into a four wheel drag and a couple of pictures of the competition, I’m sure I can do a lot better with the cab than these. They are interesting though.
MY TRAILERbit 13 foot long by 3 foot wide with soft mobility scooter suspension and working lights and landing legs.

Loaded ready for a show weekend
Tractor units I saw at a show, mine will be better, lots better
G’Day Landowner,
just out of interest, have you considered or tried AutoCad?
2D drawing on autocad is quite simple - you do need the program of course - but there are free tutorials available on Youtube etc…, within a few short sessions you could be up & running.
The big advantage of using something like autocad, is that you can draw whatever it is you want - the Scania cab in your case, and move lines around to your hearts content - lengthen, shorten, change angles and so on untill it looks correct - then click on ‘dimension’, and bingo - there’s all the measurements for you.
Just a suggestion,
Cheers, Keith

Good idea Keith but I’m not technically minded, I can draw a cab using for instance 1 cm per foot but first I need the cab measurements, do you know the distance from the rear of the door to the dividing section of the cab just in front of the corner window ? or the width of the inserted section of the cab which changes it from a day cab to a sleeper ? or the distance from the top of the front wheel to the top of the wing, and the depth of the wing etc etc. I can’t find these measurements on the internet, I did have a go at a Peterbilt cab because I thought it would be easy but I got the rake of the front of the cab wrong and also the corners of the cab were wrong so it looked a bit silly. Dont want to do the same with the Scania
First attempt without any measurements to go on
