Scania 124 R470 - Advice

We run a small fleet of DAF 480 and Scania 124 R420 mostly 55 reg. The business is in Africa. We buy all our trucks, used, from UK. Most of these trucks have so far not disappointed - all we have done is normal service. We have our own workshop.
As we are expanding, I am now considering of buying a couple of Scania 124 R470 56 or 57 reg. However, after reading some of the bad press regarding 470s’ secondary compound turbo, I am nervous to take the jump. I have a limited budget - would have preferred 124 R420 or Volvo. As for the latter, parts are difficult to find in that part of the world.
Any advice?

In my experience stay clear of the 470 turbo compound. Very pooh indeed.

The 470 had problems because the oil spinners weren’t cleaned at each service so oil built up solidified and broke away therefor knackering the turbo. Some 420 good had this issue too. Mine old one had over 800 kms on it when it went and one had one replacement secondary turbo at around 500k kms hope that helps
