Grand views of the Scammell ‘gate change’ being used by a skilled man.
Not sure about the quality, or lack of, the double declutching but the rest of it was a reasonable reconstruction of a normal day at the office for my Dad during WW2 in Italy.
Especially the photos at the end showing the Diamond T.
He never said anything about the Scammell being used by his unit.
I can confirm that by all accounts the job could be at the risk of MG42 fire which was lethal at beyond a mile and driving over errant teller mines.
The results of either being not much different for any unfortunate recovery crew, to the fate of many of the unfortunate ‘knocked out’ tank crews often left inside for their final journey back to a field station to be ‘removed’ before repairs.
Possibly one of the reasons why my Father had no interest in driving trucks after being demobbed.
My comment was about the ‘gate change’, nothing more. Have you ever used/driven a Scammell with a gate gearchange ? I have, a couple of hours to get the feel of it and they were easy peasy, I liked them.
Consider having a medication review. I’ve no wish to be offensive but, with the best will in he world, you are your own worst enemy, you invite ridicule.
Me too, Highwayman, Ilkeston Haulage. A lovely setup once you got used to it and teamed with a Gardner 150 governed at 38 mph, plenty of time to get the hang of it.
I even found that if you had the lever in the right spot the gate wasn’t all that uncomfortable to sleep across, not that we had much time for sleep with Ilkeston.
