A couple of my old motor, MVH747P:
While waiting to cross a roundabout yesterday, I heard a very distinctive engine noise. Looked around and low and behold there she was! A lovely example still being used. Anyone know anything about this one? Sounded very much like a Detroit to me.
BRP 301S. Northants reg, but I think the company is from Royston Cambs area.
same motor , quite a few of it on this link .
And after spotting that old beauty (above), I thought I’d dig out a few of my old Crusader pics from the 80’s
Couple of heavy hitters to begin;
UYL 814S
EDW 785V
UCX 299R. She had Rolls Royce eagle diesel badges on.
HME 652N. Spotted this one at Cranfield airfield many years ago. Possibly a “lorry driver of the year” do…
KNH 566L. The same Crusader as pictured on the Scammell brochure. I remember Rogers running it 24/7; Day job was “swarf” from British TImkin bearings - Northampton to Sheffiled. Then reload lime - Buxton area to Dunstable. Night job was trailer change at Felixstowe. Pictured with “heavy” groupage trailer departing yard early evening. OVERSLAGBEDRIJF was part of Gelders BV.
TUW 61M. Why did Radclive run a solitary Crusader alongside F89’s?..
(Not sure who took this pic)

Off topic Harry, do you know how many lorries Glendinning owned at their peak?hiya,
It was the early 70s when i did my bit for Glenny but at that time they would have had roughly twenty motors all British manufacture and a mixed bag of trailers flats, tippers and car transporters, they did open another depot at Pity Me but how big the fleet grew i don’t know i’d thankfully left them by then.
thanks harry long retired.
Thnaks Harry I remember Archie drinking in Maryport saying that he had 120 vehicles this would be around 1977.

hiya,
At the end of my working life i worked in the next premises along from Glenny’s yard at Pity Me the Consett operation had ceased and was a building plot but i doubt very much if he counted all his rolling stock motors and trailers they would’nt have totalled a 120 don’t think he ever got that big, but i’m here to be shot down i’m used to it.
thanks harry long retired.
