Scam Warning A34/ M40 Area

m.oxfordmail.co.uk/news/11824883 … fraudster/
Not digging at the mods but I attempted to post an encounter with this chap jumping out trying to flag down lorry drivers on the A34 slip roads a couple of weeks ago and it never appeared…

You can’t con someone who’s honest.
When someone hands over £70 in this circumstance, they’re counting on the idea that the ring is real, and no attempt i will ever be made by the mark to find this person, because you’re glad to see the back of them, having got their “real” ring…

An honest person would probably be attacked though, for actually voicing an opinion about the attempt being made upon them. :unamused:

Just showed the linked article to my lad, and he says the same guy tried unsucessfully to flag him down on the Ardley Road, that runs from the A34 up to Cherwell Valley on Friday last week…Dark blue car , bit tatty, possibly a beemer or VW on foreign registration plates…

You can con the stupid though, when I saw this chancer at Pear Tree I knew it was dodgy, why only flag down lorries? If you need help you’d try and stop anyone who passed. I thought he was trying to stop a lorry, then claim they’d hit him.
They wouldn’t get me, I don’t stop for anyone I’m not the trusting sort.

Shame you can’t do it in this country, when I was doing the m/e years ago, as anyone who did the job will agree, this was a common scam, flagging truckers down on the pretext of selling something supposedly valuable to raise some money or more often to change some money into smaller denominations or another currency, I had my deterrent, a large bowie knife by my seat, with that under their nose they give you the impression they need to be somewhere else, quickly!

I was parked for the night Beaconsfield Msa,and saw a few women asking for petrol money, as they had run out of fuel somewhere else, or a story about being broken down.

Not sure if you read the other comments on the same story on the original web page but someone with a sense of humour added this, possibly a trucker Made me laugh!

I had a bad experience the other day and would like to warn others---- Two very good-looking 20-21 year-old girls of eastern European origin come over to my car as i was packing my shopping into the boot. They both started cleaning my windscreen, their breasts almost falling out of their skimpy T- shirts. I thanked them and offered them a tip, they said’No’ and instead they asked for a lift to another supermarket. i agreed and they both got in the back seat. On the way there, they started ■■■■■■■■■■, until both were completely naked. Then, when i pulled over to remonstrate, one of them climbed over into the front seat and started crawling all over my lap, kissing me touching me intimately and thrusting herself against me, while the other one stole my wallet! I had my wallet stolen on September 4th, 9th,10th, twice on the 15th, 17th, 20th, 24th and 29th. Also on October 1st, 4th, 6th, 9th and 10th and twice yesterday. So please warn all the older men you know to be on the lookout for this scam. The best times seem to be just before lunch and about 4:30 in the afternoon.

That ring scam has been going on for years, especially in the tourist cities, Paris, Rome, Barcelona, etc…

It’s happening to car drivers as well. Somebody on a car website I visit got turned over last week just outside Leeds A1/A64. He was daft enough to hand over £150 for two worthless rings. And there were a number of replies from all over the place with tales of it happening.

Yeh I know what you mean. I habitually take down the registrations of cars that overtake me, pull in front and brake hard with no brake lights connected… When I successfully pull a brake test of my own, they’ll speed away. The back end of the car is invariably battered somewhat, and the car is usually around the 10-15 years old mark, and a VW, looking like it could be an “ex-taxi”…

I’m paranoid that some nasty piece of work is going to try and pretend “I hit them” by acting out footage for the benefit of the cameras looking down upon the road from a distance, that might indeed make it look as if I had… By getting my police report in first, any attempt to “report me” for “hitting them, and driving away” is going to fall flat.

I’ve taken down dozens of numbers over the years - but only ever had two attempts to “claim” off me via false witness in a similar manner to what I’ve described above. That’s two occasions that would have sunk me as a driver had I not taken the necessary precautions that I did, so I’m content my actions are both necessary to both be done, and continue indefinately.
A fellow driver at my old office once got “reported” for running some white passant off the road on blue bell hill - and got 9 points for his trouble. He couldn’t prove that he’d not done it, and didn’t submit a report when some car driver one night “carved him up to come off at eccles junction” (no actual contact) if memory serves. I strongly suspect the rest of the “fast-tracking” of the case against the white home-grown & bred driver had to do with the playing of the race card to the police investigating this otherwise dodgy geezer in the passant suggesting that “all the damage to his car” had come from being hit from behind by a truck. Never rise to the police question “Is there any chance you COULD have hit this person as they claimed sir?” :open_mouth:

No sympathy at all for anyone that falls for this, let’s be honest here they think they are gonna make a few quid from this ring and that’s why they hand over the cash then start crying when they find out its worthless!
Anyone remeber the guy that used to frequent the M6 services Knutsford/sandbach and Keele who had just been to a watch show and had a few left over that were worth a grand each but he would let you have one for £100 because he had to get rid of them■■?
I’m sure the odd ■■■ fell for it!

That is one reason that I fitted the Snooper Sat Nav, As it has a built in dash cam, in this day and age you have to cover your Ar**e at every turn Against these conning Foreign Buggers ( yes and I will say that most of them are Asian or eastern Europeans ),.,. And yes I am getting more and more Racist as time goes on.,. :imp: :imp:

A fool and money are soon parted … :unamused:
I just don’t get people that fall for this as a petrol station will allow you fuel on an arrangement ie they’ll take a copy of your passport and travel documents

what is it with these people who fall for it all the time,if he managed to stop me and explained the situation my reply would be that I would call the police on his behalf and tell them he was stranded,i guarantee he would suddenly realise he does have enough petrol and everything is fine while running for his car,the next thing would be to take his registration,i will never understand why people are so gullible, its the same with the travellers when they try to ponce diesel off hgv drivers at truckstops with their sob stories, usually about a member of their family being ill and they need to get where they are going but don’t have any money for fuel,or that their vehicle broke down and they need fuel to get it going,at least a majority if not all hgv drivers are wise to it,it does amaze me that they still try though, mind you all I carry on me is enough to buy myself a paper and something to eat so the have no chance with me

+1,D T A [don’t trust anyone]best way to be

There will always be gullible/greedy people that will fall for things like this. Usually the same ones who book a holiday when they get an e-mail saying they’ve won the spanish lottery and send their £250 “admin fee”

I’ve no idea or comment about what you previously tried to post. But getting to your content, you can’t help mugs or stupid people, and maybe thats a bit harsh. But you can’t change peoples nature, they will help if they can. Something Charities know about all to well and exploit to the fullest. Your warning will not make one iota of difference.

I remember him he said they were knock off duty free from Manchester Airport. And a Turkish guy selling leather jackets, they actually looked quite nice.

on the same note though not truck related,i had to laugh this morning when I read in the sun that a woman has had an 18 month internet relationship with some American bloke with an Italian background he has given her the big sob story about being in jail, something about his credit cards etc,she has now sold her house to send him £375,000 [I think the amount is correct]to bail him out,she told the paper that he has promised to repay every cent as he put it when he meets up with her,now it could be the truth but maybe we all know otherwise and that is he will disappear without trace to find his next mark/victim,like I said very gullible people
