And this thread just proves that the Tory tactic of demonising unions has worked perfectly. The politics of envy is alive and well and living in the (dis)United Kingdom…
Sorry mate but the Tories didn’t need any tactics ,the unions managed to screw themselves up all by themselves
Are you familiar with the term ‘social engineering’?
By & large, you think almost exactly how they want you to think.
By & large, almost everything you think you know about the unions comes from your media of choice !
I believe that most Men withdraw their labour when all else has failed. Men who want to work don’t do this easily.
You prefer champagne Tories then? The “I’m alright Jack, pull up the ladder” types? The ■■■■■■■■■ who are busy demonising the sick, infirm and elderly as a “burden on the state”? If so you just proved my point, and confirmed Chas’ as well…

Stereotypical bs.Like comparing Norvenors in the UDM to Kent NUM who were the first ones out and last ones to go back when Maggie won.The fact is there’s plenty of suvverners who would have supported a general strike in support of the miners and who’d never cross a picket line just as there’s plenty of norvernors who wouldn’t the former and would the latter.Which is how Maggie won.

In this case Harry it’s one of the simple issue of the working class supporting each other or not.Maggie defeated the union movement and the working class because it wouldn’t stick together and the rest is history.

Depends on which version of history you want to believe. As I remember it the economy was doing a lot better under a system in which we weren’t a net importer of manufactured goods and coal and gas and with strong unions keeping wages ahead of prices.Than we’ve got now since Maggie got what she wanted.

Nope ,the only thing i prefer about the current bunch of muppets as opposed to the last bunch of muppets is the present ones are remaining true to their colours ,i expect nothing less from the upper classes ,i do not expect socialist mp’s or trade union leaders to steal money from the workers .Where you happy with the major unions donating millions of your hard earned to fund Blair and Brown in their endeavors to send Britain back to the dark ages ,i wasn’t ,i’m also not happy with union leaders getting 6 figure salaries +benefits ,free houses and gold plated pensions so as far as i’m concerned they are as bad as each other except the union leaders may be worse because their hypocrisy makes me want to puke all over their paid for by the members shagpile .
I’m not a socialist & I’m certainly NOT a communist, I don’t know what I am politically, but I heard something on my local radio station today that really made me think.
We have a cold spell coming in the next few weeks, how many old folk will die 'cos they cannot afford adequate heating?
How much are we spending to refurb Nottingham’s train station during the same period of time?
This thought was provoked by someone who most would pidgeon hole as a Tory !

Maybe those union leaders were just following the example of the hypocricy of their memebership who put them where they were and who made the rules regarding union leaders ‘benefits’ .Then when push came to shove were also probably more likely to believe what they read in the Sun that Maggie would look after their interests better than standing behind their respective unions would in the event of support for a general strike call in support of the miners.
Therefore maybe the memebership just got the leadership it deserved.

Maybe it’s just that at least one politician might have suddenly woke up to the fact that it ( should be ) all about the difference between right and wrong not bs party politics. But the reason why they can’t afford the heating bills is because of over reliance on imported natural gas and shutting down the mines.I’ll believe any ‘Tory’ has changed their outlook enough to state openly that Maggie was wrong when I see it.

It was just a bit of banter Carryfast and your going right off on a tangent again, but you missed out mentioning the 70s, top of the pops and Joe Philpot.

Quite possibly ,the one thing union leaders hate more than tories is intelligent workers who can think for themselves and make their own decisions ,kind of makes them redundant
