Saw a drivers nightmare today

Problem is in these situations you may only get as few seconds to make a decision, hit it dead on or make a swerve and survive if your lucky. Ive tried both options on a smaller scale, cars vs fox, first time i swerved, lost control and wrote off the car, second time fantastic mr fox got a direct hit, needed a new bumper, indicator and foglight but i lived to tell the tale (unlike the fox) So i know which option i’ll choose in future

passed it myself this morn was wet /heavy rain some times things go wrong. same old p-- take from glory boys as long as he was ok thats all that matters.

Before or after the police were on scene? If t was before then it was my van blocking lane 1 so no one wiped the trailer out.

Have to say I was very pleased every HGV that passed slowed down and passed wide, made us feel a lot safer being there!

JLS Driver SOS:
One of our local Bozo’s in a 10 tonner hit a Rhino at about 50mph, knocked it at least 60 feet, didn;t half make a mess of the truck, bearing in mind it was daylight, driver reported he didnt see it :unamused: His boss was fined a lot of money indeed.

Now thats not something you see everyday on the M6  :open_mouth:  .

I remember during my short 2 month stay in S.A. driving back at night through the game reserve attached to the Aloe Ridge Hotel near the Airport and encountering a hippo wandering across the road. all you see at first are the reflection in its eyes then the whole thing comes into view…scary

This sometimes happens after 11pm on a Saturday night in Stowmarket…Go steady!!

We are told that deer are less of a concern then we are and so, if one runs across then we smoke it.

Tend to do several thousands worth of damage even so. Now a moose… they tend to destroy what hits them. The highest repair bill I heard for a moose strike was $60k.

True you only get a split second to decide make the wrong choice the deer dies, you die or some unsuspecting passerby dies its not easy so ifs it’s not human shut you’re eyes and hold tight.

Best road for venison mince was the old A34 Newtown flats into Newbury. Don’t think there was ever a night trunker South of the M4 that hadn’t clobbered one coming along there!

(Harewood forest on the A303 nr andover is pretty high risk as well)

Easy to say “ooh the driver over reacted!” but isn’t it a natural instinct to swerve for anything that enters your path??

My thoughts exactly, I’ve swerved for a rabbit before now, don’t know what it is, just see something appear in your path and react.
I think if it’s in the road down a bit, then maybe you’ve got a chance, but if it just appears, you’re turning before you even know what you’re avoiding

I was charged by a Rhino once …12 quid to cross a safari park  …I’ll get me coat
