Saviem's fan club (Part 1)

I already have it in my picture library, and have mentioned it dates from 1949; looks really modern to me. Do you confirm, Michel?

Here’s the Iveco-cabbed one:

It looks like they have stuck two standard Turbostar grilles together. The model name, if Iveco naming conventions apply, suggests it is a 48 tonner with 420bhp. However, the badge on the front says Intercooler, so it is probably the 480bhp Iveco engine, in a 42 tonne chassis. Lucky, the badge was in Iveco’s parts bin! That specification dates it to late 1980s.

They all look like well-engineered vehicles. I’m amazed that they were not as well-known as the other Italian specialists, Perlini and Astra. You learn something new every day on this forum. Well, every week, maybe.

Anyone ever heard of this brand?

I hadn’t until now.

There are examples with all sorts of cabs on them. They must have been going for some time- one of them has a DAF 2800 shed on it.

Here’s one with a raised Turbostar cab:

It’s in Pinterest, so that’s the end of that.

Very interesting indeed, merci beaucoup monsieurs

Another outfit built 6x4 and 6x6 heavy / specialist versions of the Iveco EuroTrakker. They were called SIVI. They seemed to be a sort of Iveco equivalent to Mercedes /Titan. I’m not sure of the relationship twixt Iveco and Sivi but this picture shows both names next to each other on the dealership or factory in the pic. Ro

Sivi (Societa Internationale Veicoli Industriali) became a partner of Iveco in 1982, providing the power and muscle for the heavier models. In 2002 Sivi’s activities were taken over by Astra (since 1986 in the hands of Iveco) and from then on the Sivi brand slightly started to disappear, with 2011 being the final year that the Sivi name was visible.
Quite a pity if you ask me, I always liked those Italian stallions! Makes you wonder why they were only popular in the South of Europe, far as I can remember only one was imported in Holland, a 540hp V8. Was it the bad name Iveco had regarding reliabilty that most opted for a Titan?

Anyone familiar with this steam engine?

Came upon this pic (NMP) whilst surfin’ da net. It is labelled Pegaso. The cab is badged Ebro. We know Ebro was the name the Spanish used to build Fords under licence. I used to see lots of 6-to-12 tonne rigids with that cab but I’ve never seen a fully-fledged artic with one! I wonder if this was a Pegaso with a locally-built cab and they left the Ebro badge on it. Or perhaps locally built Fords had their own in-house cab builder so the Ebro name would come with the cab. Just wondering, like you do in Lockdown, about stuff that would never normally tease the brain!

There used to be several manufacturers of steam tractors in France; the most famous were Brouhot and Merlin. They could be coupled by a belt to a thresher.

I think Ebro only produced mainly small trucks under foreign licences, like Nissan. That cab is totally unknown to me.

Perhaps it was some licence-built Japanese vehicle, or parts of one including cab panels. Hino? Mitsubishi?

Thank you for that! The Sivi was always going to be a very specialist vehicle because for most applications the standard EuroTrakker would do the job. It was a very robust vehicle indeed. They were very popular in parts of North Africa, especially in Libya and in Egypt where I took this photograph on the outskirts of Cairo in about 2010.

The P in Ebro range was the bigger. Engines were Perkins V8 -540 183 hp with ZF 6-65 gearbox for a total weight of 27 T. The blue sleeper-cab tractor is a P 270T model . Motor Iberica was the manufacturer in Barcelona and had more success with light models also with Perkins engines. Later they had connections with Nissan in this range.

Various oldies…

Can’t help you Anorak, however, below the headlight and above the bumper on the right hand side there is a badge, either the maker or the model…hope Froggy or Michal may recognise it…

Was that Tatra in France? I didn’t think they were imported.

I reckon it might be a…Commer chassis. The badge looks right and the grill similar to some used on their cabs. Quite why it has that bodywork though is beyond me!
