Recovering a lorry from “going over the edge”.

This French picture would be more fitting coming from Fergie as he seems to have a few shoeboxes of them. I guess this is also up to Froggy or Michel to identify the lorry.

The “gone over the edge” truck is an electric battery-powered Sovel. Many were used as refuse trucks as late as the 1960s. Second must be a Renault.

Cheers Johnny and Paul… never heard of Sovel before, are they still in business?

Anyone recognise this restaurant

Hi Fergie,

great to see you posting these old French nostalgic pictures.

You asked if anyone recognises this restaurant. I don’t, but I still did some research.

Could it be this building - now a tad different, in the village of Jayat, France.

Now called - L’Ain Tres Table, 339 Route de Bourg, 01340 Jayat, France

Hi Johnny,

Hope you are keeping well, spot on with your research it is indeed Jayat, and a popular stopping place for many lads, here’s a pic taken one winter from the restaurant looking at the parking lot. I wish I still had the Globetrotter in the photo.

Regards
Richard

Proper classic nowadays those Globetrotters are Richard! Hope you and the Mrs and the rest of the clan are well?

Ever been to that Routiers just north of Bourg en Bresse on the N83? Don’t know what the actual name is but it’s in the village of Villemortier and is known as “the bakery”…

0A nice batch of Berliet TLM 10b or TLM 10 R (Michel will know…), registered in 1958 and belonging to the Onatra fleet.

Is that the same Onatra known for the yellow livery Paul?

Cracking pic, cheers

Yes. The business started in 1948, and gradually grew much bigger before going bankrupt in 1985.

They even had their own magazine you can browse through here:

Sovel 1919 to 1977, here, of course in French:

Lovely mate, cheers for the info and links

This one is for Fergie!

I wonder if that is also a Doe of Malden conversion, I have seen at least one Fergie version but mostly they are based on two Fordson Majors built to plough clay based ground in the Essex region?

Pete.

Thanks to everyone who responded to the batch of photos I posted up on the 27th November,
I haven’t been rude by not replying to you all, but, the following day we lost our internet and telephone connections
owing to storms that brought down trees taking the lines with it, the penalty of living on the edge of a forest,
as of today it still hasn’t been repaired.
On top of all that I’ve been in hospital for a minor operation (day surgery, no big deal, but need time to recuperate)
and now we’re on our way back to the UK as we have a family crisis…if it doesn’t rain it pours eh !
Anyway, thank for the replys and comments… hopefully in the next couple of weeks, normality will reign… :unamused:

Berliet TLM 10b , the air filter on the right wing is small :

Berliet TLM 10R with a bigger air filter on the right wing.Production was from late 1956 to 1958.In 1959 the TLM 10M with MAN injection had the air filter on the left wing.

As are the mirrors Michel.

Thanks, Michel§ I couldn’t find the difference between the “b” and the “R” in my documentation. My last picture of the Onatra Berliets (the tanker) is a TLM 10 M with the filter on the left wing.

jsutherland:
Thanks Richard. A great picture. Was this photo taken before the A39 was built?

Cheers
Johnny

Hi Johnny,

Yes it was, hope you are well.

Hi Patrick,

Hope you are keeping well,we are all fine thanks, the boys were talking about you at the weekend and we are planning to come to Locomotion next year as everybody had a great time, going to try and get Pete Smith and his wife to come as well, hopefully Fergie and Liz will come to keep you under control !

Did you mean The Bakehouse at St Cyr ? a fair few Routiers around that area always handy for the lads shipping out of Southampton&Portsmouth set off in the morning from Le Havre/Caen and meet up early evening in the area, spent some good nights with the Barbour lads in Uchizy, the old couple who owned it when after we’d eaten and had a couple of Macon Tea’s we started singing The Northern Lights used to leave the keys for us to lock up and we’d settle up in the morning, brilliant.
Norbert & Jacqueline’s,The Monkey House and The Glass House at Tornus were also favourites.

Regards
Richard

Hiya Richard, all is well mate, ta.

You probably haven’t seen it or just ignored it, but Mr and Mrs Fergie had me on a leash… every time I wanted to chat to a beautiful French lady, they pulled me back…

Not sure if bringing Mr and Mrs Smith over is a clever idea… the whole of Brittany is still recovering after their last visit…

Would be nice not meet your lads again, and the Mrs of course, maybe I can persuade a lady friend of mine to come as well…

That’s another Routiers you’re referring to mate, just thought about it, isn’t really all that well situated if you’re coming from Dijon way, it’s on the N83 in Villemortier, still haven’t found out what the real name is of that place.
As for others going towards the Frejus tunnel, I reckon only La Chambre is opened during the weekends…?

Cheers, Patrick

Good evening all I have not posted on here for a while but came across this picture on FB and thought it worthy for your perusal and thoughts, cheers Buzzer

I think I did post this picture some time ago. It’s a pre-WW II Henschel with a certainly in-line 8 cylinder engine. I didn’t find more about that engine. At that time, the German looked very fond of long noses: MB, Büssing, Vomag, etc… Nevertheless, it’s unlikely their power exceeded 160 bhp.

Looks very impressive indeed! I’ll bet even “Scanny Man” aka Herr Sutherland would like to get his hands on one of these…
