A monster indeed! One probably needed to be a “true man” to drive such a truck, which looks quite alike the Willèmes of the late 1940s. Any idea concerning the model and power unit?
Thanks! 1937 Faun L 600 powered by a 150 bhp 6-cylinder diesel; on the left side of the bonnet, that looks to me like a power steering hydraulic jack. A mighty truck!
Somewhere I have a specification on this indeed mighty truck…and my scalemodel (same as on the shown pictures hence drawbar and trailer) is for sale as well good offers by PM please
Going to take an educated guess ref the weights on that old girl, the wagons got to be about 6 ton, and the two trailers about 3 tons a piece, so around 12 / 13 ton empty…gvw depending on the law of the land at the time, what do you recon ? 28 l30 ton all up ?..so 150 hp would make her grunt I’d guess…
One things for sure, I’d love to have done a trip in one…
And now, just consider this one. I estimate the load at some 60 cubic metres; let’s say it’s pinewood, with a density of 500 kg/ cubic metre, which would make some 30 tonnes just for the load. Add 13 tonnes for the unladen truck and trailer. We’re now at some 43 tonnes. The poor old c. 1933 Renault VTD’s engine developed only 85 bhp…

Impressive scene in those thirties and still…bear in mind that roads were not that good, cobbled streets, sand etc and
the torque had to make the first start with horsepower to last, then around gross 50 kilometres an hour…
Wonderful input and picture 7 (Stoof-Breda) is a very very rare vehicle…an “A.S.” or the
abbrevation of “Automobielfabriek Schmidt” from Alkmaar/Amsterdam. Also distributors
of ■■■■■■■ then or the first importer (Netherlands) before WW2, Ets. Denonville (Sadeno)
being the first importer (Belgium/Luxembourg) before WW2.
