I’ve been thinking about the title of this thread for a while now, is it still appropriate, or should I change it ? I had been thinking about possibly Saviem’ s Legacy. Any feedback would be appreciated. Regards Kev.

Hi Kev. Please leave it as it is. Respect. Jim.

Been coming several times through Nantua, but never got the chance to stop and take a picture of this beauty…

It was already there 15 years ago, and it looks they take great care of it. Back from 2 weeks in the South away from civilization, and discovering plenty of new and tasty pictures!

Really? Reckoned they’d put it up some years ago, but not 15… still looks as good as new.

South and away from civilisation in one sentence… thought you were talking about Southampton there for a minute mate  Right, I’ll get me coat…

Patrick,

Is that why you didn’t come to see us when you came to the Dorset Steam Fair ■■ You are off the Christmas card list now !!

Regards
Richard

Hi Dave,

Hope you and Liz are well, here’s a draw-bar that only made it to the top of the Mont Cenis.

Hi Kev,

I agree with Harry and the rest it is a reminder everyday when you log on to this site of the great man,I only met him once on a trip to the Renault factory in Lyon. RIP John.

Regards
Richard

We’ve reached 200pages, so sad Saviem (John) isn’t here to appreciate the milestone.  R I P. John. Regards Kev.

You started it Kev, so thanks to you and all those that contribute…

And to celebrate, here’s a golden oldie “How it use to be” photo…little bit before old Saviems time, but he’d have appreciated it…

Very interesting picture, taken just after WW II, I’d say. From left to right: a pre-WW II Saurer, Berliet (probably GDR 7), and on the right, a Willème L 10 (or R 15 if it’s a 6-wheeler).

It’s been a while since I’ve been down south (no, not Southampton…) Agen to be exact, here’s a couple of shots I took…

Hiya,
Kev,In my opinion and for what it’s worth it’s sort of grown on me “Saviem’s Fan Club”,
and it is the first thing I look at when opening Trucknet UK,it is the perfect title and
if as the old saying goes "if it aint’ broke leave well alone, it isn’t a subject I can talk
about my only overseas driving being done “as a boy” in the Far East and as a big lad
(I think) a few trips to Ireland, but I will just go with the flow if I can get my diesel
engined bathchair with the 240 Gardner going, the power pack came from a Smiths
of Maddiston Big “j”.
thanks harry, long retired.

+1

When you’d mentioned going to the Far East, did you meant Suffolk perchance…? Right, I’ll get me coat…

Now hang on mate, I can explain… or will try to anyway…ahum…
You see, my hands were bound as it were, didn’t had the use nor the comfort of my own car as it was a orginazed trip. Didn’t reckon you’d be chuffed to see a coach filled with unfamiliar people turning up at your doorstep… Might swing by next year though, or earlier if I’m still welcome in the area that is…

Mrs Maggie D and your fine self doing well? And the rest of the family?

As far as I’m concerned Kev, leave it as it is as that’s how its always been, it was always a tribute to John anyway, and I’m still a fan regardless !! …however, I’ll go with the majority if they think it needs changing…

I agree with Fergie. This is one of two of my favourite threats, not that I’ve got much to contribute.

Same here, my absolute favourite thread, I’ve said it before, but it just feels like coming back to your local pub, some of your mates are already there, joined by the other regulars or the ones that only pop in on occasion. Am chuffed about the banter on here as well, and having met some of the “usual suspects” in the flesh I’m more then proud to call them my friend.
I still might be the Whippersnapper, and my contribution to this fine thread may be limited, but it’s a privilege to be part of it.

I think I’ve got the message     Leave it as it is!!! Thanks lads, ( I use the word"lads" advisedly)   Regards Kev.

That photo of Barbezieux Truckstop , is that the one Claude from St Genis started ?

Hiya,
Went to the Far East on a troopship the motors were there awaiting my arrival,
I have however driven to various parts of Suffolk, but thankfully I don’t need to
drive anywhere anymore if I choose not to.
thanks harry, long retired.

Had another chance to meet up with one of my heroes… Bonzo Bear…

Treble reduction hubs?

They’ve done an article about Bonzo in the latest edition of Heavy Torque…

Apparently the standard Mack axles failed on the heavy work and were replaced by ultra heavy duty hub reduction axles. Although proved to be very strong, there’s the lack of a top speed, due to the very low gears, Bonzo is limited to 35mph…

.

No idea what happened to that last page, but if you click on it it’s much easier to read…

Found a picture of Herr Sutherland and me when we were still wearing nappies… Johnny is riding shotgun, I’m teaching him how to use a proper 'box…

Patrick, I do not doubt for one minute that is you driving as I can see the dent on the front of the cab, Johnny informs me you hit a low bridge with it, as it was a super space cab when you left the yard and he says he felt sick when that photo was being taken due to smell of burning clutch!

You are spot on Pete!! Well spotted. You’ve got an eye for detail.
This picture was taken only a few years ago
