Nostalgic pic for the week…

Ok , someone had to ask , which one is you ?

I’m glad you were brave enough to ask that question Rigsby, if I was the one asking I would be in for some proper bollocking…again…
Now, I’ve found sommat that would fit quite nicely with mentioned gentlemen…
No need to thank me Fergie, I’m just keeping an eye out for me older brethren…

You know Whippersnap, you really are like a young turkey looking forward to Xmas…you’ve been warned about insulting me and then you have the nerve to post a DAF zimmer frame up suggesting I need it. You were shown a pic of Mrs F’s sister the other day and it hasn’t registered that you are in deep ■■■. My body guard, will be accompanied by several ladies on her trip to Paris, all of whom have a fearful reputation…this is your final warning, do not to insult poor old OAPs…if you persist, your demise will be extremely slow and painful…and don’t make the excuse that an auto box has addled your brain, it won’t wash…A cheque made out to me for a grand may hold them back, but I cant guarantee it…your move… :imp:

Well, if it makes you feel any better, I did search for one with a Volvo sign on it, I know how much you love those Swedish powerhouses

I’m not really worrying about those ladies either, since nobody on here know’s what I look like (apart from Johnny that is, but he wouldn’t dear grassing me up  ) and I’m quite skilled in going into oblivion
See ya in a couple of weeks mate

Hi pv83, or any body that can help please, the tr with Axel in the middle, the tandams at rear,
This must be horrible tr when heavy loaded? and also in the wet??

Also what is the box behind the cab on some 8 wheel heavy hauliers, its the width and height of cab
Thanks for any help…m

Ey up mate!

I’m not an expert on those matters, but I reckon you refer to that unit I drive? That first axle can be lifted, and the last axle is a steered axle, otherwise it would be indeed a pain in the arse to move about! One has to be cautious when driving in the rain, since I haven’t got a double drive tractor unit anymore and I have to make do with a ■■■■■■■ auto’ box I would say the driving hasn’t become much easier, quite the opposite really…

The box behind the cab is mostly for storage of equipment, and with the heavier models, the diesel tank, air vessels and extra coolers are build into a “tower” behind the cab as well. Have to dig into the archives for footage of that, but I’m sure I’ve got some detailed pic’s somewhere.
In the meantime, I hope that was the answer or explanation you were looking for…?

Cheers, Patrick

Patrick, cheers for ans, ans my question thankyou,

I was steersman\mate in the 60’s, scammell constructor and 90 ton tr!
Long retired now,but they were the days!!! fergi 47 was also at same firm as my self.
I’m sure their are some pics on Southampton forum,I’ll backtrack and let you know…m

Popquiz question of this week; what is it?

I’d say Mack NR fitted with what looks like an Unic (or perhaps Pelpel) cab and obviously a Scania engine.

pv83:
What’s the story of this “bull nose” Berliet then? More powerfull engine fitted?

Berliet GLB 18 4x4. Indeed, the protruding nose means that a more powerfull engine is fitted, needing a bigger radiator. Instead of the standard 4-cyl Berliet diesel of the GLB, a 6-cyl Hotchkiss petrol engine (4,68 litres; 150 bhp) is fitted. This truck was designed mainly for fire-fighting.

Good afternoon pv83,

I am interested in the project pic you posted, please tell me more!!!

It looks like one of the Tractomas units supplied to Alstom in central France, or am I wrong?

PV 83, this Berliet GLB 4x4 has been equiped with a MDX 24 diesel engine from a Berliet GLC , more powerful but longer that explains the protuberance. But some firetrucks were also so designed with 6 cylinders gas engines from Hotchkiss.

Morning Fergie,
Hope you are well, some pics sent to me from your neck of the woods, well France somewhere!, Cheers Pete

Fergie,
Here is a pic of the Albion you requested and one of her stable mates from same company when working, Cheer’s Pete

Pierre…

That restaurant looks vaguely familiar… :unamused: …so now you know the difference between an English transport caff, and a French Routier restaurant… …no contest really ?

I expect a visit with that old Albion, loaded with tea bags, brown sauce, mint sauce , and half a ton of Battenburg cake…and some Cherry Bakewells …and a pork pie… :open_mouth:
You can back load vin rouge and Brie for old Bewick, don’t think in the past six years it’s ever managed to get to him, I blame that Carryfast…

Patrick, don’t be getting me involved. You arer in deep trouble now, or even deeper than you were, if that was possible. I have too much respect for the OAPs on here. Most of them have forgotten more than I’ll ever know about the transport world.

Dave,
I’ll have to send a trailer across unaccompanied for you to pick up from docks to tip and back load for Dennis, see if you can whip an F89 away whilst at Locomotion? and kill 2 birds with one stone…you get the deliveries done and you can show Patrick what a gearstick looks like and what it does!

Going senile already Pete, I never asked for a ■■■■■■■ auto 'box in the first place, and still am quite capable of shifting through the gears thank you very much

I would have expected quite a rather different answer to that Herr Sutherland…

No worries mate, glad I was able to help

Now, you’ve touched a soft spot there by mentioning a Scammell! Do you’ve got any pic’s of that perchance?
Will have a wee search on that thread as well, sounds rather interesting.

Hello young Johnny…many thanks for the photo and description of that hooligan auto driver, posters being made up as we speak…hope you haven’t pre-paid for his ticket to the museum, don’t think he’ll be needing it, still, get him a pamphlet and he can read it while he’s recuperating… :unamused:
