Saw this some time ago in the yard of a firm where I had to tip, now bair with me 'cause it’s not French or a lorry, (Link-Belt crane…) but it was fitted with a MOL cab and it did had a feature which most certainly Robert will appreciate…
Mechanic told me that it stood still for some 20 odd years, he just poured some “fresh” diesel in it, connected new batteries and with just one turn of the key it started… now that’s quality for ya!
Cheers, Patrick

Punching a Guy Big J and an ERF non sleeper around Europe…naaaaaaasss, don’t think so… wasn’t till I got a Volvo F88 that life improved, then out came the tinted glasses…

You were “lucky” enough tramping around in that Guy and ERF I reckon…Just finished reading “50 shades of tarmac”… imagine doing the same work in a small non sleeper cabbed Mack…
Got some pic’s of that Guy and ERF perchance Fergie? Not that I don’t believe you, just curious is all…

Posted a few on the Southampton site a while back, and maybe the odd one of two on here…when I get my scanner to talk to my computer I’ll dig a couple out for you, but don’t hold your breath…

Well, meanwhile I’ve found some footage of cab…er…conversions, like… After seeing that, you just might look back on that Guy and ERF through those pink tinted spec’s after all I reckon
Oh and about that last pic, if it’s coming to that, I’m most definitely out…
Two old nostalgic pic, first I’ve posted before, but it epitomises a French restaurant scene in the late '50’s / '60’s, and the second a Parisian nightmare…

Patrick my boy…go to Long departed Southampton hauliers, page 14, near the bottom, to see how it use to be done…
Having said that, I’d stop in Routier hotels, start at around 7.00am after breakfast , plod along until a stop at midday for a meal, stop around 6/7 pm for another meal and a bed, repeat process until you arrived back to the UK… no mobile phones, trackers, or office staff on your back, so not all bad, the arrival of the sleeper cab kind of ruined the job really…up at all hours of the day and night, no time to stop and chat in the evenings, and week-ended in a box…so in some respects, they were in fact, good old days…except maybe for 180 hp, then again, that was the norm… .

Had a look…grandad Nice wagons, but I would prefer a sleeper cab, and not because I’m used to that, but I don’t find it very comfortable to share a room with several other drivers…burping and ■■■■■■■ away
And I’m quite keen on sleeping in me own bed, in me own “shed”…
But in a way I can understand what the charm was of getting the job done back then… Mind you, not much has changed though, still start at around 6am to pack things up at around 6pm. And about office staff, well, they don’t really bother me, but that’s probably down to the division of transport I’m in…
Oh and I remember what is was like driving around with just 180hp, my first lorrie was a rigid Volvo FL6, never missed a beat, but it was quite slow in the first few gears…at the time I drove on a regular basis to Solingen near Wuppertal in Germany for taking in the backload, now that backload wasn’t heavy but joining the autobahn coming from the sliproad meant going up a quite steep climb, and with just 180hp always proved a challenge… Still loved that motor though
Good 2 page write up by John on Pacific’s in this months Heritage Commercial magazine,
Tha kind of batch of pictures that makes a wet and gloomy Monday morning pleasant; thanks Fergie!
