It’s a small world as they say, here are a couple of pictures took at the Leyland Museum 30 years ago! Have been posted before but to lighten the mood and give Fergie another opportunity to extract the urine! 1st pic is of my friend Robert Bate’s Atki with me aged 16 in passenger seat.
That’s not you Smithy, the wagon’s not leaning to the N/S, and the springs aren’t hitting the bump stops…
Nice pic,s though…but those Atki’s are mid '70’s, and the pic of the Bernard you posted is early '60’s, what a difference… :we were so far behind our European brothers…roll:

Dave,
I was a racing snake then! You’re right about UK being so far Dave, both those Atki’s are mid 70’s so as a driver would you choose the Atki or a F88/Scania 111?

Not French but from Wolverhampton for Maggie D,
Hi Pete,
Thanks for the photo brings back memories, your dear departed friend would have given us a run down on Joseph Foulkes, like everyone else on here I really miss his informative posts R.I.P. John.
Regards
Richard
Hi Richard,
For the size of Foulkes there is not many photo’s of them around, a sad part is John ( Saviem ) asked me to find some information/history concerning his Grandfather who worked on the canals and railways, I’ve had the information sent to me yesterday evening

Hi Patrick,
In agreement with Johnny, cracking photo’s, did the Liebherr come out of a quarry, only asking as the dipper arm look’s nice and short for a greater “break-out” force, cheer’s Pete

Hiya Pete, and cheers for the compliments
No it didn’t came out of a quarry, it was used for demolition (ground) work, your’re right though about that shortish arm for more force. Had a hard life though, machine was well worn out… When the French use something, they really tend to “use” it by all means…
One for Fergie,
Here’s one, a 1936, a Fordson clone a first sight but if you look between seat and mudguard you can see the lever for the 3 point linkage, early version of the same system fitted to your’s,a brilliant bit of engineering for the 30’s,very clever man Harry Ferguson in design but dropped a clanger when he went in to a deal with Henry Ford as he ripped off the “Ferguson System” design which ended in a law suit which Harry Ferguson won.
Another piece of worthless information for you Fergie, the Jenson Interceptor FF,which had anti skid brakes and 4 wheel drive, well the FF stood for Ferguson Formula, not bad for late 60’s, as they say nothing new in the world.
A local friend of mine owns a Jensen 541R model, this has a straight 6 Austin engine fitted, well a derated version of these where fitted to Austin lorries and very early Massey Harris combine harvesters, he is not impressed when I tell him this!
Anyway here is your picture and I hope I’ll be forgiven for the tractor’s and car’s theme, Cheer’s Pete
jsutherland:
How far do you travel Patrick? Do you usually run back empty?
Cheers
Johnny

Hiya Johnny,
I’ve seen most of Europe, did a lot of runs to the Eastern Bloc countries, and the south of Europe, nowadays the majority of the runs take me up to France (which I prefer), Germany and Switserland.
Prices are a bit under presure, so the lads in the office are always keen on finding us backloads, most of those backloads excists of “scrap” for the docks in Antwerp where it’s going to be shipped to Africa or other “far away” places…
When I first started though it wasn’t unusual to get back empty, I remember when I tipped somewhere south in Portugal, gave the office a ring and they just said, well done lad, you can steer all the way up north again… Different times eh…
Back to Wolverhampton! I asked John a couple months back where the Dodge in the first pic was based, John suggested Showell Road, he was right but a few years too early as the second picture’s shows the premises, one still in use and the other before demolition, now the question is would that Dodge fit in that doorway to load up? And is that why they had the racks down the side of the Dodge to suit the premises as obviously they could not go over the cab with long products!,the premises where on Rookery Street Wednesfield and there was no rear entrance as it backed onto canal, it was 300 yds away from Joseph Foulkes yard/coal wharf, Cheer’s Pete
Sorry John, no Bollinger will a Single Malt do mate!
