Couple of heavies…
I like the photo of the Phillips display vehicle Fergie , it reminds me of the Camion Magasin that used to come to our village .
Hi Dave,
Happy Easter to you and Liz.
Those old black and white photo’s are wonderful thanks for posting them, that last one reminds me of Angie and I when we started driving !!
Like kerbut that Philips vehicle reminds me of something, that shop in Oxford St London called Selfridges
Regards
Richard

Heres some pretty ugly motors Smithy…
If this one is a 1933 Berliet GPEF, powered with a 12-litre 105 bhp diesel…
What on earth can be this one? Looks Swiss-registrated (canton of Vaud); would it then be a home-made cabbed Saurer? Well designed and built.

Got some more heavies up your sleeve per change…?

How about driving this about? I’d be taking the gable end out of everything
That does indeed raise the question, how on earth do you get that 'round corners, without knocking everything down…

I don’t know how Mack managed it! They seemed to contrive to make European cabs on their products look as ugly as Yankee truck of the period! Take the tall version of the Motor Panels Mk 4 cab: Scammell made a very attractive ‘Crusader’ out of it; ERF made a slightly less attractive but very presentable ‘European’ out of it, and Mack made this gawky duckling out of it!! Robert0
It’s no worse-looking than the Crusader, IMO.

While ironically AEC were obviously planning on using a reasonable knock off of the cab over Pete which certainly didn’t fit the description of ugly yank wagon.

While Scammell also actually obviously rightly went for the KW look with their tidying up of the MP cab which is arguably what makes it look ‘right’ v Mack’s effort.
On that note KW and Peterbilt were arguably more or less where DAF was with the 2800 and Volvo with the F10 in terms of cab design styling but around 10 years earlier.

Hungarian Csepel! I should have thought about it! A modern a vast cab for its time, especially compared to what was made on the other side of the “iron curtain”…

Here you go Fergie, all the ammo you will ever need…MateNow Smithy, here was me thinking you were an old, fat, ugly git…how wrong I was, what a fine specimen of an upstanding citizen you are…
Off this afternoon to spec-savers… I keep seeing the world through rose tinted glasses
Now that I have dragged Saviems thread to rock bottom with Fergies help, things can only get better!

It says here that it was made from 1958, so it was indeed a super-size cab for its era:
csepel-sziget.hu/wordpress/f … o/d705.htm
It also mentions that the cab was a 6-seater. Presumably, the Hungarians went about the job mob-handed. Later on, the article says the seats would fold down into a double bed. I’m saying nowt…

Not with this post!
Engine developing 145 kW, almost 200 bhp, a respectable power in 1958!
