saturday work

if like me you work days only, between 8-10 hrs a day with prob 4-5 hours driving time each day, can you work the saturday morning? not every week but 2 together, like maybe this saturday and next saturday but not the saturday after… I have done it like this for ages but today have been told i cannot as i am breaking regs and can only work every other saturday morning…

who,s right?

What we used to do ten years ago, just had to watch your finishing time on Saturday for an early start on the Monday. No doubt even that is different these days?

Pete.

Pete, know what you mean but tbh the saturdays are usually about 7am start and done for 12 maybe 1pm at the latest and dont start till about 07:30 on the monday. Ive been doing this way for ages and nobody as said its wrong and ive not had any infringments for it either, so a bit confused know as the guy telling me i cant do this is more experienced then me, i think

He’s talking out of his arse. Don’t think because someones experiences they know what they’re on about.

Nothing wrong with what you are doing so far as I can see. By working Saturday you are taking a slightly reduced rest, but then rightfully making it up on the weeks you don’t work Saturday. Fine.

If you’re regularly working Monday to Friday then Saturday till between 12:00 and 13:00 and restarting Monday at 07:30, and doing this regularly on 2 consecutive weekends you should be getting infringements nearly every every time you do it.

As a one off you can almost certainly get away with it, but not doing it regularly.

If you finish on Saturday at 12:00 and start again at 07:30 Monday you’re having a reduced weekly rest period of 43½ hours, you cannot legally do this back to back on a regular basis.

Generally you need to have a regular 45 hour weekly rest period at-least every second weekend.

He’s not actually talking out of his arse - he is I’m afraid strictly correct. You need to have a 45 consecutive hour weekly rest break at least every alternate weekend - you cannot have two reduced weekly rests in two consecutive weeks (12noon Sat - 7.30am Mon gives only 43.5 hours at the most and therefore has to be counted as a reduced weekly rest. You CAN’T do two of these in a row as the OP suggests). To be absolutely sure the OP would need to provide his work pattern over a 4 week period to be able to give a definitive YES or NO, but based on what the OP has said so far, it seems that what he is doing IS in fact illegal.

Oooops! Got pipped at the post by Tacho

Must’ve been typing it as he posted.

you could always start at 9 on the monday. hey presto 45 hours weekly rest every week and 6 days

its not a regular thing, usual maybe saturday, then mon-fri and sat again and then maybe 2 -3 sats off, it is occasional and as said never had a infringment for it… seems maybe splitting hairs?

Of course, your right, I skim read, jumped the gun and assumed he was being told he can’t work the Saturdays at all. :unamused: Time for bed…

Well you may see it as splitting hairs mate but I’m not sure VOSA would

Basically with the hours you work you could legally have 2 consecutive reduced weekly rest periods once after a holiday weekend of 4 days, then not again until the next time you have 90 consecutive hours off which is probably going to be the next holiday weekend.

It’s between you and your company whether you carry on doing it or not, we’re just telling you the way it is legally.

Whatever you do I wish you luck

There is no splitting hairs about it, its illegal. The fact your company isn’t giving you an infringement doesn’t mean you aren’t.

thanks all, its a bugga really cos i dont mind being wrong its just knowing that mr know it all at work is right… doh…

You can work six days every week as long as you have 45 hours off! :sunglasses: OP START AT 9am  at stobrats! 6,6,5 loadsa money! :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing:
