I’ve been doing a bit of digging. The 520 communicates with the Internet via that MyDrive App (unlike the units with their own built-in SIM). Lots of users have been seeing similar problems to yours (loss of Traffic service on the Satnav but the App still works - many even seeing total loss of connection between Satnav and phone). One possible solution is to not use the MyDrive App to do the Bluetooth pairing but instead pair the phone directly to the phone using the phone’s Bluetooth connection. The only caveat is that you will also need to turn on “Bluetooth tethering” on the phone (it’s off by default) AND remember to re-enable it every time your phone is rebooted or comes out of “airplane mode”. I think you can still use the MyDrive App for route planning etc doing it this way, but you will lose the ability to have text messages displayed on the Tomtom screen. Sadly I don’t have a 520 so can’t test this.

I’ve found the best solution to phone / connection / live trafffic issues with the 520 is to use your phone as a Wi Fi hotspot and connect with Wi Fi then , not bluetooth
This^^^^^^
Don’t connect TomTom via Bluetooth, it’s carp. It’s my understanding that connecting using Bluetooth through the MyDrive App (which is the way TomTom tell you to do it) is indeed very fishy, but connecting the phone natively via Bluetooth (effectively bypassing the App) works fine. A potential issue with using Wi-Fi is that the Satnav might think it is connected to a regular Wi-Fi Router and attempt to update itself, thus potentially chewing through a fair chunk of your mobile data allowance. But I defer to the voices of experience as I don’t have a 520.
you are right there raymundo about the updates , luckily though it just tells you updates are available
that gives you the option to download them in the cab , or wait till you get home and do it on the home WiFi
I tend to download small updates in the cab such as community share updates etc
but the big updates such as a new map of the whole of Europe are about 10 gig in size
so i do that when i get home rather than use my phone data
PS
i think secretly you do have a 520 but don’t like to let on
