Satnav for LGVs

Has anyone tried the Snooper Syrius S2000 TRUCKMATE? Looks pretty good although the full Euro maps don´t appear to be up and running yet.

If you have whats it like? Is it worth 350ish quid for the UK?

P.S. if you dont have details here they are
snooper.co.uk/snooper-s2000-truckmate.htm

Also see the new VDO Dayton portable units - include digital TV viewer - no prices yet that I can find though.

Found that one on their link to suppliers its around 525 quid.

For which model?

Here they are but they may be cheaper elsewhere I have no idea

If you havent got time to look the 6000 (with telly) was 530 squid and the 4000 480.

i brought the syrius truck mate last week and received it monday,
I’ve only used it one day (today) and it seems spot on,

You type your lorries height, width and weight, and the sat nav diverts you around all of the relvent restrications.

I want that!

Snooper Syrius S2000 TRUCKMATE sounds like a nice piece of kit.

schrodingers cat there is full euro maps out, did a search on ebay and they are on there for a extra £100 quid.

youngwithaclass1 can you keep us updated with the performance of your new sat nav, and lets see if it really works for HGV’S.

thanks all…

Steve

Thanks. It’s about time there were some good truck options appearing - hopefuly the prices will drop over the next year or so. It’d be interesting to see a comparative test between the two brands.

On the one hand the VDO units have full euro maps as standard, but it’s unclear how many updates you get in the package. With VDO you also get TV and video display.

The Snooper unit charges for updates (£4.95 monthly or a £99 one off fee for life) and only has UK maps as standard.

The Snooper also has daily speed camera updates and it looks like better traffic info, but the VDO has drivers hours stuff built in - a tricky choice

Hopefully just before both of my current Sat-Nav’s get fried

Mr Garmin & Mr Tom’Tom still working fine for now.

Yea know problem steve. i should use it a bit over the up and coming weeks so i’ll keep you informed if it plays me up or sends me some where, where i shouldn’t be going.

I’ve got the Snooper Truckmate too, Euro one… been spot on in Uk & France up to now, great buy! I got the subscription thrown in so get one free maps update a year as well as latest speed cams whenever I connect it to the laptop.

The best thing on that what a tom tom doesn’t have ( from what i can see) is a ‘golf shot’ saver. The rest hits you in the face when you’re on the road. I just love the ‘restrictions’ and ‘warnings’, you’ll obviously see none of them on it as its dedicated for trucks and routes them accordingly?

just bear in mind that the map data isnt quite there yet i think its 60 percent from memory so WONT be fool proof

one thuing to consider if your away all week daily updates are useless for you unless you can get a wifi or gprs package for you mobile phone
